To see where Hornet is on the map in Hollow Knight: Silksong, get the area’s map and equip the Compass. The map shows the area; the Compass marks Hornet’s current location. Owning the Compass alone does not activate the marker.
How the Compass works
The Compass is an equipable tool that marks Hornet’s location on the map. It answers “Where am I?”; it does not replace the map itself or serve as a combat tool. The item reference lists its cost as 70 Rosaries, though prices and availability can vary by game version. Compass item reference
Get a map, then equip the Compass
Get the area map
Shakra is the cartographer who sells maps and navigation items. You need the relevant area map for the Compass marker to provide useful context. Team Cherry describes Shakra as helping Hornet with charts, compasses, and other tools. Nintendo Life guide to maps and navigation
Equip the Compass
After obtaining it, equip the Compass as a tool. When it is equipped, Hornet’s position appears on the map. The item reference describes Shakra’s offer as a bone compass for tracking location through Pharloom’s winding lands. Compass item reference

What the Compass does—and does not do
- Area map: provides the map context for a region.
- Compass: marks Hornet’s current position when equipped.
- Exploration: remains necessary to learn Pharloom’s routes. Team Cherry says the mapping process uses the same tools and restrictions as Hollow Knight; the Compass should not be treated as revealing unexplored rooms. Team Cherry’s Silksong systems update
How it differs from Hollow Knight’s Wayward Compass
The original Hollow Knight had a Wayward Compass charm, described by Team Cherry as showing the player’s position on the map. Silksong instead has a Compass tool. It is not the old charm, and it does not work just because you own it: equip it to see Hornet’s marker. Team Cherry’s Wayward Compass description Silksong Compass item reference
