Hold Your Own is not an upcoming Steam release: Steam lists the survival crafting game as released on December 1, 2017. It is a single-player open-world sandbox from DistrictWare inc., built around surviving on hostile islands, gathering resources, crafting gear and developing a base. Its Steam listing also says multiplayer is on hold due to technical issues.
What kind of game is Hold Your Own?
Hold Your Own is a first-person survival crafting game set across a multi-island world. Steam describes a loop of collecting materials, facing hostile insurgents and wildlife, crafting equipment and building a base. It combines exploration and combat with survival meters and production systems rather than focusing on combat alone. Steam’s store listing identifies DistrictWare inc. as both developer and publisher.
What can you do in the game?
The listed systems span basic survival, resource production and longer-term progression:
- Stay alive: Manage hunger, thirst and body temperature; hunt and cook food.
- Gather and make: Collect resources, mine and refine ore, and craft equipment.
- Build a foothold: Construct a base and work with power systems.
- Develop the island: Farm crops and raise animals.
- Travel and explore: Use vehicles while navigating a day-and-night cycle and changing weather.
- Choose a play mode: The listing describes a tutorial quest, quest mode and full sandbox mode.
These are the mechanics and options described on the store page; they do not establish how extensively each system is implemented or how it performs on a particular PC.

Is Hold Your Own multiplayer?
Do not buy it expecting a working co-op or multiplayer session. Steam’s feature list says: “Single Player, Multi-player is on hold due to technical issues”. The listing presents single-player as available and multiplayer as paused, not as a confirmed feature you can currently use.
Is the game still receiving major updates?
A developer post dated November 6, 2023, titled “Small update prior to leaving Early Access,” said: “Updates from this point on will be sporadic small ones that won’t affect performance. There will be no more major updates at this point as announced.” Read the dated Steam Community update. That announcement describes the plan at that time; it does not confirm whether the development situation changed afterward.

The store page also says the game was acquired after being abandoned and is being brought back by a different, small team. That is the store’s account, not evidence of a current development schedule or ownership status.
