What record did Silksong break?
It broke the original Hollow Knight’s reported all-time Steam peak for concurrent players. The comparison figure was 72,916 players, reported as the original game’s record shortly before Silksong launched. That is a contemporaneous baseline, not a claim that the original game’s peak can never change.
Concurrent players means people playing at the same time on Steam. It is not a sales figure, a count of everyone who has ever played, or a total across PC and console platforms.
How quickly did Silksong pass it?
SteamDB lists Silksong’s Steam release at 14:00:10 UTC on September 4, 2025. TechRadar reported that the game had more than 110,000 Steam players before an hour had passed. A PC Gamer launch update, posted a little over an hour after unlock, reported a peak of 111,873 players since release. These reports establish that Silksong surpassed the older record within about an hour; they do not establish the exact minute when it crossed 72,916.

Launch-hour count versus eventual peak
The figures refer to separate moments in Silksong’s launch week. SteamDB’s historical data lists an all-time Steam peak of 587,150 concurrent players on September 6, 2025. That later high is not the launch-hour count and should not be substituted for it when describing how quickly Silksong broke the franchise record.

SteamDB’s Silksong charts show the historical concurrent-player record and release data. The Steam listing identifies Team Cherry as developer and publisher and describes the game as single-player.
