Which Minecraft account name are you looking for?

These names are not interchangeable. Microsoft says changing your account display name does not change your Xbox gamertag. Your sign-in email is not your Minecraft in-game profile name.
How to recover the Microsoft sign-in name used for Minecraft
- Open Microsoft’s forgotten-username lookup.
- Enter the security contact phone number or email address associated with your Microsoft account, then request a security code.
- Enter the code. Microsoft will show a masked username hint, such as
j********@outlook.com. - Compare the hint with email addresses you recognize. A single phone number or alternate email may be connected to more than one Microsoft account.
The hint is partly hidden, so it may not identify the full address by itself. If you cannot use the lookup or do not recognize the result, check Microsoft products and services where you may already be signed in.
Check devices and services where you are already signed in
Microsoft recommends checking places where the account may already be in use. These can reveal which account you used for Minecraft or for a Microsoft purchase:

- Windows 10 or 11: Check the account information in Windows settings.
- Office: Look at the account information in an Office app or service.
- Email: Search your inboxes for Microsoft purchase receipts; the receipt may help identify the address used.
- Xbox: Check the account associated with your Xbox profile.
Microsoft says support advocates cannot provide account information without proper validation. Use Microsoft’s guide to checking products or services for its current instructions.
Test an email address you think you used
Enter the suspected address on Microsoft’s account sign-in page. If Microsoft asks for a password, the address is a Microsoft account. If it says no account exists, check the spelling and domain; Microsoft also notes that the account may have been closed.

Find your Xbox gamertag or Minecraft profile name
Xbox gamertag
Check the profile for the Xbox account you use. The gamertag is your Xbox gaming identity, not the email address you use to sign in. Changing your Microsoft account display name does not change the gamertag, according to Microsoft’s account-name guidance.
Minecraft in-game profile name
Inspect the profile shown in the Minecraft launcher or game you use. That is the relevant place to check an in-game profile name, but the exact steps can depend on the launcher or game version. Microsoft’s support guidance cited here does not establish a current, universal procedure for finding the Java Edition profile name. Do not use your Microsoft sign-in email as a substitute for the in-game name.
