Before you start the Bell Beast fight
The Bell Beast is bound in silk at the Bellway station in The Marrow. You need the Silkspear skill to cut the restraint; doing so starts the encounter. PC Gamer places the station near Shakra and the route to Mosshome, and says Silkspear is obtained by going into Mosshome. See PC Gamer’s Bell Beast guide for its route description.
How to handle each Bell Beast attack
Use the ground telegraphs to identify what is coming, move out of danger, then hit the boss while it recovers. The attack labels below are descriptive; they are not necessarily official in-game names.
Charge: jump over it
The fight opens with a horizontal charge across the arena. Jump over the beast rather than trying to outrun it. If you are comfortable with the timing, a downward strike can punish it while Hornet stays above its moving hitbox. Otherwise, land safely and use the pause after the charge to attack.

Leap: avoid the landing, then punish
A taller ground telegraph signals the leap. Watch the beast’s arc and move clear of where it will land. Its brief pause after landing is a safer opportunity to deal damage than following it into the air or attacking as it comes down.
Rolling bells: jump the floor hazard
A ground telegraph near the center precedes bells rolling outward along the floor. Step back, watch which bell is approaching Hornet, and jump over it. Avoid dashing into a bell while trying to close the distance.

What changes in the second phase
A roar and a fall of bells across the arena mark the later phase. The community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki places this transition at 75 HP and describes eight bells falling; PC Gamer characterizes it as a brief bombardment. The useful change in your plan is to keep checking above and around Hornet after the beast acts: ceiling bells can follow moves, particularly leaps and Bell Bursts. Avoid the hazards first, then take an opening when the arena is clear.
A safe approach to winning
- Wait for a ground telegraph and identify the committed move.
- Dodge the move: jump the charge, clear the leap’s landing, or jump an approaching rolling bell.
- Use the recovery pause to attack instead of chasing the beast during an animation.
- In the later phase, look for falling or ceiling bells after attacks before resuming offense.
If you are learning the timing, favor a clean dodge and recovery hit over a risky early strike or pogo. The available guides do not establish a guaranteed hit count or fixed timing window, so adjust to the openings you can safely recognize.

What defeating the Bell Beast unlocks
After the fight, the Bell Beast becomes friendly and enables travel between Bellway stations you have unlocked. The encounter also grants the Silk Heart, which PC Gamer describes as restoring one spool of silk when Hornet runs out.
