What official mod support adds
The PC update added a Play Mods option to the game menu, where players can find and install approved mods without using a separate manual installation process. Warner Bros. Games described the change as adding “MOD browsing and installation in our PC Client” in its January 30, 2025 PC patch notes. The official pipeline connects in-game discovery with creations made using the Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit and reviewed for CurseForge.

Which platforms support official mods?
Official mod access is documented for the PC versions sold through Steam and Epic Games Store. Warner Bros. Games’ player FAQ says console versions are not currently supported. That is the status described by official materials checked on October 8, 2026; platform availability can change.
How to install and enable a mod on PC
Installing a mod and enabling it for a save are separate steps. You need to link your Steam or Epic Games Store account with a Warner Bros. Games account to use the in-game browser. Follow the official PC mod installation guide:

- Launch the game and select Play Mods from the main menu.
- Browse the available mods and install the ones you want.
- Open Enable Mods, choose a save, and apply the mod changes.
- Load that Mod Save. The game may need to load shaders for newly installed mods before you can play.
The mod system needs an online connection to work properly, according to the PC update notes.
How Mod Saves work—and what happens to achievements
Mods apply to a Mod Save, not automatically to every save on your profile. You can copy an unmodded save to create a separate modded version, preserving the original vanilla save. You can also use different mod configurations on different saves. Achievements are disabled on a save with mods enabled, as stated in the official player FAQ.

What creators need to make an official mod
The free Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit is distributed through Epic Games Store. To use it or upload a creation, authors need a Warner Bros. Games account and must link their Epic Games and CurseForge accounts, according to the authors FAQ. The kit is a streamlined version of Unreal Engine 4 Editor; it is a creator tool, not a requirement for players who only want to browse and install mods.
Officially supported creation examples include quests, dungeons, cosmetics, skins, and character enhancements. The CurseForge Hogwarts Legacy page describes a workflow that lets creators upload through an editor widget, have creations cooked in the cloud, test them in-game, and submit them for moderation. CurseForge documentation says a creator and up to five selected team members can test a creation before public release. Approved mods can then appear in the PC game menu for players to discover and download. Mods made previously need to be recreated in the Creator Kit to enter this official in-game system.

Creator Kit precautions and older third-party mods
The January 2025 patch notes warn that Creator Kit updates can remove files outside the official installation. They recommend keeping mod source in source control, and caution creators against changing Creator Kit plugins or force-deleting assets referenced by mods, which can cause breakage or instability.
The same notes warned that changes to data serialization and ray tracing could affect some older third-party visual mods—such as those changing appearances, clothing, wands, brooms, facial presets, mounts, or animations—and could cause crashes. This was a warning tied to the 2025 update, not evidence that all third-party mods currently fail. Those legacy mods are also distinct from creations distributed through the official Creator Kit and in-game browsing pipeline.
