Spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy’s main storyline and its ancient-magic backstory. Ranrok is the clearest answer: he leads the active rebellion and seeks ancient magic. But he is not the only antagonist. Viktor Rookwood is his dark-wizard ally, while Isidora Morganach is a historical figure whose choices shape the story’s moral conflict—not the present-day main villain. Professor Fig is presented as the player’s ally and mentor, not a secret betrayer.
Why Ranrok is the main villain
Ranrok drives the central conflict as the leader of the goblin rebellion, and his pursuit of ancient magic puts him directly against the player. The PlayStation Blog’s story overview describes the rebellion and the player’s investigation, while Wizarding World’s character guide calls Ranrok one of the game’s main antagonists.

The game’s narrative lead, Moira Squier, explains that Ranrok has “seen a glimmer of a magic that wizardkind tried to hide – even from themselves – and he wants that power in particular.” His pursuit is inseparable from his hatred of wizards, giving the conflict both a personal motive and a struggle over dangerous power.
That does not make every goblin part of his cause. Wizarding World notes that some goblins actively oppose Ranrok, so the rebellion is not a reason to label goblins collectively as villains.

What role does Rookwood play?
Viktor Rookwood is a second antagonist, not a harmless distraction from Ranrok. He is a dark wizard allied with Ranrok and leads the Ashwinders, a faction of dark witches and wizards. Their alliance is uneasy: the two share an enemy but have different aims, and Ranrok’s hatred of wizards complicates any partnership.
So, if “true villain” means the figure at the center of the main conflict, Ranrok is the best answer. If it means the human dark wizard working alongside him, Rookwood is an important co-antagonist.

Is Isidora the hidden villain?
Isidora Morganach matters because the story’s ancient-magic conflict has a history. Wizarding World describes her as someone who tried to harness ancient magic but went too far. Her actions inform the story’s moral question—whether such power should be used and what its use can cost.
That thematic importance does not make her the active present-day villain. The official character description identifies her as a historical figure tied to ancient magic; it does not identify her as the main antagonist of the current conflict. Calling her a “hidden villain” is an interpretation, not the clearest reading of the stated roles.

Is Professor Fig secretly the villain?
The available first-party descriptions position Professor Eleazar Fig as the protagonist’s ally and mentor. Wizarding World calls him one of the player’s greatest allies, and the PlayStation Blog overview describes him investigating the rebellion’s rumors and guiding the protagonist. The claim that Fig is a secret villain is fan speculation, not a role supported by those descriptions.

Games’ official site uses the broad phrase “a dangerous villain,” while the more detailed character descriptions name Ranrok as one of the main antagonists and identify Rookwood as his ally. Those descriptions are compatible: the broad summary does not mean there can be only one antagonist.
