Spend them from the Crest pane in the menu; you do not need to be at a bench. Two early sources have Act 3 fallback locations if missed, while later pickups may require movement abilities, a Wish, a purchase, or a boss victory.
What Memory Lockets do
Memory Lockets unlock Tool slots in the Red, Blue, and Yellow arrangements of Crests. Open the Crest pane in the menu and use a locket when ready. The location guide lists 20 total, exactly enough to open every slot; it does not establish that collecting all 20 is necessary to finish the main story.
After you meet Eva, unlocked-slot milestones can earn rewards: 12 eligible slots yield a Vesticrest Yellow Tool slot, 20 yield a Vesticrest Blue Tool slot, 27 yield Hunter Crest fully evolved, and 32 yield Sylphsong. Eva counts unlocked eligible slots, not lockets left unused in your inventory; Hunter Crest slots do not count. The location and item guide is a community wiki, last edited August 20, 2026, rather than an official developer guide.

These area-level directions and requirements follow the community wiki’s checklist. Use your map and landmarks to locate the exact room; this numbered list is not a tested fastest route.

How to plan pickups and recover missed lockets
Use the Act 3 alternatives for two early sources
The Mort and Volatile Flintbeetles Wish entries are conditional relocations, not extra lockets. If you did not buy Mort’s Far Fields locket earlier, check Grindle in Blasted Steps in Act 3. If you left the Wish incomplete, look beside Flick the Fixer at Survivor’s Camp in the Marrow in Act 3.
Match each pickup to its gate
Several locations are listed with movement requirements: Cling Grip, Clawline, Faydown Cloak, or Silk Soar. Other entries depend on a Simple Key, Key of Apostate, completing SAVE: The Threadspun Town or the Volatile Flintbeetles Wish, making a shop purchase, or defeating a named boss. A locket appearing on a checklist does not mean it is reachable or claimable before its listed condition is met.

Track what you have opened, not just what you have collected
If you are working toward Eva’s milestones, count eligible slots already unlocked and spend lockets from the Crest pane as needed. An unused locket in inventory does not advance her slot count, and Hunter Crest slots are excluded.
