Use the LAS-99 Quasar Cannon for a deliberate anti-armor shot, then spend its recharge window doing something else: switch weapons, reposition, or deal with nearby enemies. Its charge-and-recharge cadence makes it a poor tool for rapidly following up against several heavy targets.
How the Quasar Cannon’s firing cycle works
The Quasar Cannon must charge before firing and then recharge before it can shoot again. A community-maintained Helldivers Wiki.gg reference lists a three-second charge and a fifteen-second recharge for the weapon. That interval is the weapon’s downtime, not a reason for you to stand still. The same community reference says Helldivers can switch weapons while the Quasar recharges.
What to do after firing
- Take the shot. Treat the Quasar as a deliberate attack rather than a weapon for rapid successive shots.
- Switch to another weapon. Use your primary or secondary to stay useful while the cannon recharges.
- Move or improve your angle. Use the interval to reposition, find cover, or respond to nearby enemies instead of waiting in place.
- Return to the Quasar when it is ready. Resume using it for the next deliberate shot; do not plan around immediate follow-up fire.
When its cadence becomes a limitation
The Quasar is a less suitable choice when several heavy enemies need to be hit in quick succession. Its charge before firing and recharge afterward make rapid follow-up shots difficult. If you bring it into a situation with multiple heavy threats, plan to handle nearby pressure with other weapons or team support while the cannon recovers. This is a cadence-based tactical consideration, not a ranking against every other anti-tank option.

A full current comparison with other support weapons would need verified information about their follow-up speed, downtime, ammunition and resupply demands, and ability to address several threats quickly. The cited references establish the Quasar’s cycle and weapon switching during cooldown, but not a complete alternative-by-alternative ranking.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ Patch 01.000.300, dated August 16, 2026, documented a five-second increase to the Quasar’s recharge time. The same patch notes also recorded a fix for an issue where the Sickle and Quasar Cannon could not shoot through foliage. Arrowhead’s Into the Unjust: 4.1.0 notes, published February 3, 2026, describe broader weapon and stratagem effectiveness improvements but do not list a Quasar-specific change in the relevant reviewed sections. The official Helldivers 2 Steam announcements include updates 7.1.0 and 7.1.1 from September 2026. Those later updates show that the game continues to receive patches; their dates alone do not establish a Quasar change. The community reference identifies patch 1.007.101 for its weapon details, so keep that community information distinct from Arrowhead’s official patch records.
