How to Add and Paste Schematics in WorldEdit

Put a schematic in WorldEdit’s configured folder, load it with //schem load, then use //paste. Folder locations and paste alignment depend on your setup and the file’s saved origin.

Place the schematic file in WorldEdit’s configured schematics folder, load it with //schem load <filename>, then stand at the intended paste anchor and run //paste. Loading puts the structure in your clipboard; it does not place it in the world.

Where to put a WorldEdit schematic

The default folder depends on how WorldEdit is installed. For Bukkit-family servers such as Bukkit, Spigot, and Paper, use plugins/WorldEdit/schematics. On other platforms, the default is config/worldedit/schematics. These locations and the clipboard workflow are documented in the WorldEdit 7.4 clipboard documentation.

If the schematics folder does not exist, create it manually and put the schematic file there. WorldEdit does not create the folder until a schematic is saved in-game. The configured directory can differ from the default: check the saveDir setting in WorldEdit’s configuration documentation if the file is not found.

Load and paste the schematic

  1. Check the file and directory. Confirm that the schematic is in the active schematics folder and note its filename.
  2. Load it into your clipboard. Run //schem load <filename>, replacing the placeholder with the file’s name. The command reference also documents /schematic load <filename> [format]. To see formats available to your installation, run //schem listformats. See the WorldEdit command reference.
  3. Move to the intended paste anchor. Loading does not place blocks; it makes the structure available in your clipboard.
  4. Paste it. Run //paste to place the clipboard contents in the world.

Formats and common load errors

WorldEdit 7 uses the Sponge schematic format, commonly saved with the .schem extension. It can import older .schematic files through a compatibility layer, but it cannot save in that legacy format. If loading fails, check the filename, whether the file is in the active directory, and whether its format is supported.

The /schematic list command can show saved files, but the command reference cautions that a listed file’s format is not fully verified until it is loaded. A file appearing in the list therefore does not guarantee that it will load successfully.

Fixing a schematic that pastes in the wrong place

A structure that appears shifted may have loaded correctly. A schematic preserves its copy origin and relative offset, so the paste position depends partly on where its creator stood when copying it. Try adjusting your position before running //paste; if the same offset persists, the saved origin is a likely cause rather than a failed load.

When WorldEdit denies the commands

WorldEdit’s command reference lists worldedit.clipboard.load and worldedit.schematic.load for loading, and worldedit.clipboard.paste for pasting. If a server denies a command, ask its administrator to check the permissions used by that WorldEdit installation.

Saving or sharing schematics instead

To save the current clipboard to disk rather than load a file, use WorldEdit’s schematic save workflow in the clipboard documentation. The documented //schem share option sends files to the EngineHub Paste Service, where they are deleted after one month; it is intended for short-term sharing, not long-term storage.
