You can change the email address linked to a Nintendo Account through Nintendo’s account website, provided you can complete the verification Nintendo requests. Sign in at accounts.nintendo.com, open Sign-in and security settings, update the email field, then enter the code Nintendo sends to the new address. If you cannot access the old registered inbox, Nintendo says to contact Support to have the address updated.
Change the registered email address
- Go to accounts.nintendo.com and sign in to the Nintendo Account you want to update.
- Open Sign-in and security settings. In a mobile browser, select E-mail address. On desktop, select Edit in the E-mail address section. The label may differ slightly by region or page version; Nintendo UK, for example, uses Change.
- Complete the identity check Nintendo presents. Depending on your account setup, this may involve your password or passkey, a code sent to the currently registered email, or another available verification method.
- Enter the new email address and submit the change request.
- Open the new inbox, retrieve Nintendo’s verification code, enter it on the account page, and submit it. The address change is not confirmed until you complete this verification.
If Nintendo asks for another verification method
The prompts depend on the security options on your account. If you cannot use the email code and have a phone number registered, Nintendo’s Americas instructions describe choosing another verification method to receive a text code. If two-step verification is enabled, enter the authenticator code; if you cannot access the authenticator, Nintendo describes using a saved backup code. Follow the alternatives shown on Nintendo’s page. If you still cannot complete verification, use Nintendo’s missing-email help or Support route.
If you cannot access the old email address
The standard self-service process does not bypass verification of the current address. Nintendo says that when you no longer have access to the registered inbox, it must update the address for you. Contact Nintendo Support for assistance; Nintendo does not promise an immediate change.
If you forgot which address is registered
Nintendo’s account recovery instructions explain how to check from a supported Switch system. In User Settings, you can see part of the registered address. With the account password, the account information screen can show the full address on supported systems. If you still cannot identify it, contact Nintendo Support.

Check that you are updating the right account
These steps apply to a Nintendo Account. A Nintendo Network ID is a separate, older account associated with Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and it has separate instructions. If the sign-in you need to change is a Nintendo Network ID, do not follow the Nintendo Account email-change steps.

Nintendo’s email-registration eligibility rules differ by region. Its Americas support page says users aged 12 and under cannot register an email address and that supervised Nintendo Accounts can do so from age 13. Nintendo UK says children aged 15 and under cannot register an address and supervised accounts can do so from age 16. These are regional eligibility rules for registering an address, not a universal statement about whether every existing account can edit one. Check the guidance for your region or contact Support if the account is supervised or belongs to a child.

For supervised accounts covered by Nintendo’s Americas guidance, the supervised user signs in to register an email and the family-group administrator provides a verification code. That separate registration process does not change family-group status or parental controls.

If the verification email does not arrive
- Check that you are looking in the inbox for the new address you entered and that the address was entered correctly.
- Return to the account page and resubmit the request if needed.
- If the message still does not arrive, follow Nintendo’s missing-email guidance or contact Support.
