Match the printed model number
Nintendo’s US support information lists these model numbers and example serial prefixes:

The printed model number is the clearest identifier. Serial prefixes are supporting clues from Nintendo’s US support pages and may differ by region. This list does not cover every regional code or special edition; if your marking differs, check the relevant regional Nintendo documentation rather than guessing.

The sticker location depends on the model. Nintendo’s support material gives these locations:

Follow the console’s visible design and don’t force a panel open to look for the sticker.

Identify your console step by step
- Look for the model number printed on the outside of the system.
- Match that code to the table above.
- If the marking is obscured, find the serial sticker at the location for your console’s design and compare its prefix with the listed US examples.
- If you’re checking a used-system listing, ask the seller for a clear photo of the model marking. Verify the condition separately; color and listing names alone do not establish the model.
