Use Bannerlord’s in-game encyclopedia to find unmarried candidates, compare their profiles against the role you want in your campaign, and then pursue the courtship and marriage dialogue. There is no evidence-backed universally best wife: the right choice depends on the character’s abilities, clan ties, availability, and your plans.
How to find and compare candidates
Open the in-game encyclopedia and inspect potential spouses rather than relying on a fixed list of names. Gamer Guides recommends checking a character’s attributes, skills, clan, culture, age, occupation, and relation. Confirm that the candidate is unmarried in your save; characters can move, and their availability may change.
Compare what matters to your campaign
- Skills and attributes: Consider whether the character’s profile suits the role you want them to fill. No single stat is established as guaranteeing a better marriage.
- Clan and culture: Think about the connections you want and any clan implications that may matter to your campaign.
- Personality and role fit: Weigh compatibility with how you intend to play; there is no sourced ranking that makes one candidate best for everyone.
- Location and availability: A candidate who is difficult to reach may take longer to pursue because characters travel.
The community guide describes its courtship route as requiring the target to be at least 18 and of the opposite gender from the player character. Treat those as reported mechanics, not guaranteed rules for every version; check the encyclopedia and dialogue options in your own game if eligibility differs.
How courtship works
The community-maintained Bannerlord.GABS marriage guide describes courtship as an initial interaction followed by two persuasion stages. In its documented flow, time passes between stages—roughly a day between interactions—and successful persuasion leads the target to ask you to seek family approval. Dialogue and timing may differ by game version, so follow the options your save presents rather than treating this sequence as an immutable patch rule.
Get family approval and finalize the marriage
After courtship succeeds, locate the target’s clan leader and choose the marriage discussion dialogue. The guide says this opens a barter for the marriage terms. The available evidence does not establish a universal dowry or fixed price: an example from a maximum-relations cheat setup is not a reliable guide to an ordinary campaign. Negotiate based on the terms shown in your barter.
Arranging a marriage for another clan member
Player reports in a May 2024 Steam discussion describe proposing a marriage involving a member of your own clan by speaking with another clan leader. Those reports say a male clan member’s wife joins the player’s clan, while a female clan member joins the other clan. They also report that a potential spouse may be unavailable if they are leading a party, imprisoned, or a fugitive, and that your clan member may need to be free of certain party roles. These are community-reported behaviors, not confirmed universal rules; the discussion does not establish that you can broker marriages between two unrelated clans.
