You can still play FIFA 21 on a PS5, but you can no longer claim the free upgrade to its native PS5 edition. The FIFA 21 Dual Entitlement offer ended when FIFA 22 released. If you own FIFA 21 for PS4, you can install or play that PS4 version on a compatible PS5.
Can I still upgrade FIFA 21 from PS4 to PS5?
No. EA’s FIFA 21 Dual Entitlement terms say the free upgrade offer expired when FIFA 22 released. At the time, the offer allowed eligible PS4 owners to upgrade to the corresponding PS5 edition; it is not a current upgrade path.
EA also documented a standalone PS5 edition at launch. Its present-day purchase availability is not established here, so do not assume that the old free offer can be used to obtain it.
How to play the PS4 version of FIFA 21 on PS5
This route uses PS5 backward compatibility to run the PS4 edition. PlayStation says the PS5 is compatible with the overwhelming majority of PS4 games, while noting that some PS4 functionality may be unavailable and some games may show errors or behave unexpectedly. Its support page lists 4,000+ playable PS4 games overall; that is a platform-wide figure, not a FIFA 21-specific test. See PlayStation’s backward-compatibility guidance.

If you own FIFA 21 digitally
- Sign in on your PS5 with the PlayStation account that owns the digital PS4 copy.
- From Games home, open Game Library.
- Select FIFA 21 and choose Download if it is not already installed. This installs the PS4 edition.
If you own the PS4 disc
- Insert the FIFA 21 PS4 disc into a PS5 model with a disc drive.
- From Games home, select the game’s hub to install or start it.
- Leave the disc inserted whenever you play; the disc is needed to access the game.
A PS4 disc cannot be used on PS5 Digital Edition, which has no disc drive.
What is the difference between playing the PS4 edition and getting the PS5 edition?

Which FIFA 21 progress transferred between generations?
EA’s historical Dual Entitlement terms limited cross-generation transfers to FIFA Ultimate Team and VOLTA FOOTBALL content and progress. The transfer required an internet connection, the same EA account, and the same PlayStation Network account on PS5; transfers were limited to consoles from the same manufacturer. Career Mode progress and all other game progress were not included in EA’s stated transfer scope.

The original offer also required the PS4 entitlement to be owned or obtained before FIFA 22 released, and the upgrade had to be used with the same platform account associated with the PS4 copy. Disc owners needed to retain and use their disc. These were conditions of the now-expired campaign, not a way to claim it today.
