To stop someone from accessing games through your Steam Family, use Account Details > Family Management to leave the family or remove that member if you have adult management rights. If you only want friends to stop seeing a game or its activity, mark that game Private instead; that does not revoke family-library access.
Choose the control that matches what you want to stop

End access through Steam Family Management
- Open the Steam Store page and select Account Details.
- Select Family Management.
- If you are an adult member who wants to end your own participation, choose the option to leave the family. If you have adult management rights and want to stop another member’s access, remove that member.
Steam Families is Steam’s current family-sharing system, replacing Steam Family Sharing and Family View. Steam documents management in the Steam client, on mobile, or in a web browser; its official route is Account Details > Family Management. Available actions depend on your role. A child cannot leave independently; an adult must remove the child, or Steam Support must do so.
Check the cooldown before confirming
Steam says an adult who leaves must wait one year from joining the previous family before creating or joining another family. A vacated family slot also has a one-year cooldown before a new member can occupy it. An adult may rejoin the last family without waiting if it has fewer than six members. Steam Families is intended for a household of up to six close family members, and Steam says participation requirements may change as it monitors use. Review the Steam Families FAQ before making a change that could affect future membership.
Hide a game’s details without changing family access
If your concern is that friends can see a game’s ownership, in-game status, playtime, or activity, use the game’s Mark Private option. Steam says Private hides those game-specific signals from other users. It is a visibility setting, not a way to prevent a family member from playing a shareable game. When a game is unavailable to share
Not every game can be shared through Steam Families. Steam lists exclusions that include games needing a third-party key, account, or subscription; free-to-play games and their purchased DLC; region-restricted games or DLC; games that do not support a member’s operating system; publisher-excluded games; and games the owner has marked Private. If a game is already unavailable for sharing, removing a family member is not necessary to address that game’s availability. Steam’s FAQ lists the sharing eligibility rules.
Limit a child’s game access
An adult can use parental controls to restrict which games a child member can play. Steam’s FAQ describes game restrictions for child members; it does not document the same per-game restriction for adult family members. For an adult, use family membership controls to change shared-library access.

Do not give someone your account credentials to enable sharing or try to manage access. Steam says, “Do not share your account or password with anyone.” Use Steam’s family controls instead. See Steam’s account-security guidance.
