Where do spear-upgrade artifacts come from?
Artifacts for upgrading the Spear of Leonidas come from Cultists of Kosmos. Ubisoft explains that each Cultist you kill provides an artifact that allows you to upgrade the spear (Ubisoft’s game-mechanics overview).
How do you find Cultists?
Cultists’ identities are initially hidden. Use the Cultist information in the game to follow clues, reveal targets, and pursue their locations. Clues can come from several activities, including mercenary encounters, side quests, sinking ships, and exploring caves; there is no single fixed activity or location to rely on.
- Open the Cultist information and check the clues available for hidden targets.
- Complete the related activities or quests to reveal a Cultist’s identity and location.
- Travel to the revealed location and defeat the Cultist to obtain the artifact.
- Repeat the hunt for additional artifacts as you progress through the Cultist branches.
Where do you use the artifacts?
A secondary guide identifies the Ancient Forge on Andros as the place to upgrade the spear, and says the story introduces it after “The Serpent’s Lair” (IGN’s spear-upgrade guide). Follow the story until you reach the forge, then return with the artifacts you have collected to access an available upgrade.

What if the spear upgrade is unavailable?
Keep advancing the main story and hunting Cultists. The sources cited here do not establish the exact artifact cost for every upgrade tier, so an unavailable upgrade does not by itself indicate that you are collecting artifacts from the wrong activity. Check your current story progress and continue revealing and defeating Cultists.
