Restore a Minecraft Realm from its save-management menu: Java Edition uses Minecraft Realms > Configure > World Backups; Bedrock Edition uses Play > Realms > Realm Hub > World. Choose a save from before the unwanted change and check its date first—restoring rolls the world back to the state captured in that save.
Restore a Realm in Java Edition
- Launch Minecraft: Java Edition and select Minecraft Realms.
- Select the Realm, then choose Configure.
- Open World Backups.
- Find the save you want and select Restore beside it. Check the save’s date or version before confirming, since the restored world reflects that save’s state. Minecraft Help’s Java Edition instructions describe this route.
Restore a Realm in Bedrock Edition
- Launch Minecraft and select Play, then open the Realms tab.
- Open the Realms Hub for the Realm containing the world.
- Select World, then choose Manual or Automatic, depending on where the save you want is listed.
- Open the three-dot menu beside that save and select Restore save. Check its date before proceeding. Minecraft Help’s Bedrock Edition instructions also list an older interface route: World > Saves > Manage saves, followed by Manual or Automatic and the save’s three-dot menu. Menu labels can vary by client.
What a restore changes—and how to protect a copy
A restore replaces the Realm’s current world state with the one captured in the selected save. Minecraft Help says this reverts progress, including builds and items. It is not a merge: progress made after that save is not included in the restored state. Java Edition restore guidance and Bedrock Edition restore guidance explain the rollback.
If you want a separate copy before changing the Realm, download the world using the game’s built-in option. Java offers Download Latest from World Backups; Bedrock offers Download World. Minecraft’s guidance recommends downloading the world before replacing it when you want to preserve progress: Java download instructions, Bedrock download instructions, and Change Your Realm Worlds.
How long Realm backups remain available
Minecraft Help’s undated backup-policy page states that automatic saves are made every 30 minutes, when Save & Quit is selected, and whenever a player disconnects. Its stated retention schedule is:
#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
| Save age | Stated retention |
|---|---|
| Most recent saves | Four most recent saves are retained |
| Within the last 24 hours | One save every 4 hours |
| 1–8 days old | One save per day |
| 9–36 days old | One save per week |
| 37–121 days old | One save per month |
| 122 days old or more | Not retained |
The same page says that after a Realm subscription expires, associated backups are deleted after 30 days, while the Realm world remains downloadable within 18 months of expiry. These are the policy figures given on Minecraft Help’s undated page, How We Backup Your Minecraft Realms World; check the saves currently available in your game rather than assuming a particular older backup still exists.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the save you need is missing
- Check both Automatic and Manual saves in Bedrock.
- Look for another available save from before the unwanted change, then compare its date with the event you want to undo.
- Check whether you previously downloaded a local copy of the world.
Minecraft Help says backups are not kept indefinitely, but its reviewed guidance does not describe a way to recover a deleted cloud backup. If the save is no longer listed and you have no local copy, the available official instructions do not establish a recovery route.
