You can’t reset a wandering trader’s locked offers in ordinary Minecraft play. The trader won’t restock, so let it despawn and wait for a replacement; the new trader may have different trades.
Can wandering traders restock?
No. A wandering trader does not restock locked trades, and it has no workstation that refreshes its offers like a villager’s. Once a trade is locked, keeping that trader around will not make the offer available again.

How do I get new wandering trader trades?
- Finish trading with the current trader, or leave its locked offers alone.
- Allow the trader to despawn. The Minecraft Wiki says it can despawn after 48,000 loaded ticks—about 40 minutes of loaded game time—and may leave sooner if all trades are locked. Unloaded time pauses that timer; the reference also excludes ticks spent with the trading interface open. These figures are community-maintained guidance, not an official cross-edition guarantee. - Wait for the natural trader-spawning cycle. The Wiki describes a counter that advances in 24,000-tick (20-minute) intervals while trader spawning is enabled, followed by chance-based spawning attempts when the counter reaches zero. That interval is not a promise that a trader will appear every 20 minutes.
- Check the replacement’s offers. They may differ from the previous trader’s, but a new trader is not guaranteed at a precise time.
Will a name tag, boat, or minecart stop a trader from despawning?
No. Naming or containing a wandering trader in a boat or minecart does not prevent despawning, according to the Minecraft Wiki. Don’t spend a name tag or build a holding setup expecting the trader to remain available until its offers reset.
Do wandering trader offers vary by version?
Yes. Trade pools have changed across releases, so an offer described in a guide may depend on edition and game version. Mojang’s Java Edition Snapshot 25w07a notes, published in March 2025, say wandering trader trade changes from the Spring to Life drop became part of normal gameplay. Check the version and edition named by any offer-specific guide.
