Spoiler warning: This ranking names late-game encounters, including the final boss, and reveals progression details.
There is no official hardest-boss ranking for Hollow Knight: Silksong, and difficulty varies with player skill, upgrades, and whether optional fights and rematches count. This editorial list weighs execution and attack readability, room for error, fight structure, the route back after defeat, and how much preparation can change the encounter. It is a judgment, not a measured consensus or a claim based on comparative playtesting.
How to read this ranking
These ten encounters are ranked by the combined demands of their combat patterns and the friction around them. A long runback can make a fight more punishing without making its attacks harder; likewise, optional upgrades can change how much room a player has to recover. The order is an editorial synthesis of the documented encounters below, not a universal result.
For context, Nintendo Life’s September 26, 2025 all-boss guide counts over 40 encounters, including optional fights, and organizes them by act: Nintendo Life’s Silksong boss guide. That guide’s count is not an official published statistic, and which encounters belong in a hardest-boss list depends partly on whether rematches and optional fights are included.

The 10 hardest Silksong boss fights
1. Lost Lace
Lost Lace takes the top spot here because the encounter is described as an Act 3 final fight with rapid dash strings and pressure from multiple attack types. That combination leaves little time to reset positioning after a mistake. GameBoost also ranks Lost Lace first, but that is its own ordering, not an official verdict: GameBoost’s hardest-boss ranking.
2. Skarrsinger Karmelita
Karmelita asks players to manage more than the duel itself: GameBoost highlights a multi-wave lead-in followed by a multi-phase fight. GameSpot’s guide describes her sickle throws, a forward twisting attack, and a jump that triggers spikes. The lead-in raises the cost of learning the fight, while the distinct attacks demand clean reads and timely movement. GameBoost ranks her second; that placement is not a consensus measure. See GameSpot’s Silksong boss guide.
Rank #2
- Hollow Knight: Silksong is the epic sequel to Hollow Knight, the award winning action-adventure.
- Journey to all-new lands, discover new powers, battle vast hordes of bugs and beasts and uncover secrets tied to your nature and your past.
3. First Sinner
First Sinner’s difficulty, as described by GameBoost, comes from teleportation, rune blasts, and self-healing. The mix can disrupt a player’s timing and make pressure feel less predictable than a straightforward exchange. GameBoost places the Slab encounter third. The available descriptions do not establish numerical values as stable across current versions, so this ranking does not rely on health or damage totals.
4. Lace rematch
The Lace rematch is a demanding execution check, with GameBoost pointing to parry pressure as a defining challenge. Parries require players to respond to the attack rather than simply retreat, so the fight can punish a defensive habit that works elsewhere. Its placement also reflects that this is a rematch: it tests what the player has learned from an earlier encounter rather than serving as a first introduction.

5. Grand Mother Silk
GameBoost describes Grand Mother Silk as a multi-phase fight with hazards. Managing those elements at once can make safe positioning harder to maintain as the encounter progresses. The combination of shifting phases and arena pressure earns it a place near the top, though the available sources do not establish a single difficulty experience shared by all players.
6. Widow
Widow’s overhead and ground-level pressure, as summarized in GameBoost’s ranking, make it important to recognize where an attack threatens rather than relying on one repeated dodge. The fight’s challenge is concentrated in reading those attack lanes and choosing a safe response before committing to a punish.

7. Last Judge
Last Judge’s second phase introduces flaming attacks, according to GameBoost, while a long route back after failure adds retry friction. Those are separate sources of difficulty: the phase changes the fight’s demands, and the return route makes each attempt more costly in time. This ranking treats the runback as a meaningful burden but not as proof that the boss’s moves are intrinsically harder than those above it.
8. Phantom
GameBoost characterizes Phantom as a parry test. That makes the fight especially demanding for players who have not yet developed confidence with parry timing; a player comfortable with that response may find the encounter more manageable. Its rank reflects the precision it asks for, not a claim that every player will struggle equally.

9. Second Sentinel
Second Sentinel’s tight spacing is the central challenge identified by GameBoost. Restricted room to reposition can narrow the time and space available to dodge, heal, or set up an attack. It ranks below the encounters with more layers of pressure, but close-range constraints can make it a sharp obstacle for players who rely on backing away.
10. Fourth encounter: a deliberately unfilled slot
The available candidate list supports only nine named entries: Lost Lace, Skarrsinger Karmelita, First Sinner, Lace’s rematch, Grand Mother Silk, Widow, Last Judge, Phantom, and Second Sentinel. GameBoost’s captured page has no tenth-place entry in the material available here. Naming another boss to complete the countdown would invent a ranking rather than substantiate one, so this list stops at nine verified candidates instead of fabricating a tenth.

Preparation can change how forgiving a difficult fight feels. GameSpot points to Mask Shards for increasing maximum health, Spool Fragments for silk capacity, and Pale Oil for Needle damage. These upgrades affect different parts of an attempt: more health can give extra room for errors, more silk changes available silk-dependent actions, and stronger Needle damage can shorten the time spent in danger. They do not remove the need to learn a boss’s patterns.
Movement habits matter, too. In a September 18, 2025 report, Nintendo Life quoted Team Cherry developer William Pellen describing enemy design: “The basic ant warrior is built from the same move-set as the original Hornet boss,” followed by “in contrast to the Knight’s enemies, Hornet’s enemies had to have more ways of catching her as she tries to move away”. This is useful context for why retreating may not always be safe in a game built around Hornet’s speed and mobility; it does not establish that any particular boss is the hardest. Read Nintendo Life’s report on Silksong’s combat design.
What the ranking can—and cannot—settle
GameBoost’s own top three are Lost Lace, Skarrsinger Karmelita, and First Sinner, and its stated considerations include attempts, runback burden, and skills required. That provides a useful second opinion, not representative player data. The reviewed sources provide no official hardest-boss order or representative statistic showing which fight defeats the most players. A different player’s experience can shift the ranking: preparation, comfort with parries, and tolerance for long retries all affect perceived difficulty.
