There is no officially ranked “best” spell combo in Hogwarts Legacy. The strongest choice depends on your range, target and unlocked talents. For a straightforward close-range attack, use Accio → Incendio; for a single-target damage setup, try Glacius → Diffindo. The game is designed for players to mix spells and build a combat style that suits them, so treat these as practical recommendations rather than a universal ranking.
What spells work well together?
Good combinations pair a spell that positions, controls or disarms an enemy with a follow-up that exploits the opening. These picks draw on the tactical effects and requirements described in EIP Gaming’s spell-combination guide; they are editorial suggestions, not developer-endorsed builds or controlled damage comparisons.

Which combo is best for early game?
Start with Accio → Incendio
For a simple early-game pairing, pull an enemy into range with Accio and follow with Incendio. The basic combination requires no talent according to EIP Gaming, making it accessible without the masteries that improve its crowd-control or area damage. Its main limitation is range: you need to get close enough for Incendio to connect.
Add Glacius when you need control
If you want to set up the close-range hit more deliberately, use Accio → Glacius → Incendio. Pull the target closer, freeze it, then attack. This adds a control step, but it also takes more casts; choose it when the extra setup suits the encounter rather than assuming it is always better.

How do you choose a combo for the encounter?
- Check your distance. Incendio is a short-range option, so use Accio to bring a target closer before relying on it.
- Decide whether you need control or damage. Glacius can set up a follow-up; Diffindo is the single-target finisher in the guide-supported Glacius → Diffindo chain.
- Check your spell and talent unlocks. The basic Accio → Incendio pairing does not require a talent, but masteries expand its effects. The curse-spreading Avada Kedavra route has the specific mastery requirements listed above.
- Consider the enemy. Expelliarmus into Ancient Magic Throw only makes sense when the enemy has a disarmable weapon and you have the required Expertise talent.
- Choose your preferred style. Dark Arts is one option, not a requirement for effective combat. Avalanche combat representative Troy Johnson described the intended approach as “play your way,” with spell combinations, plants and potions, and Dark Arts among the possibilities discussed in the Wizarding World interview.
