The headline’s separate claim that it ranked first on Steam Top Sellers is not independently confirmed by the sources available here. These are different charts: Top Sellers ranks by sales revenue, while Most Played reflects concurrent players.
What the two Steam rankings measure
Steam Top Sellers is a sales-revenue chart; Steam’s Most Played chart tracks how many people are playing at the same time. A game can rank differently on each because one measures purchasing activity and the other measures concurrent play. Any precise ranking also needs a date and chart scope, such as a live snapshot or weekly archive and a global or regional listing.
That distinction matters for the headline: a third-place player-count position does not verify a first-place sales position.
What is verified about Silksong’s launch rankings
Third place on Most Played
Tom’s Hardware reported on September 5, 2025 that Silksong had reached third place among Steam games by concurrent players, with an interim peak of 535,213 players about three hours after release. That was a launch-period figure, not a current player count. Tom’s Hardware’s launch report provides the dated context.

A later all-time concurrent-player peak
SteamDB records an all-time concurrent-player peak of 587,150 on September 6, 2025. This later figure is higher than the interim peak reported the previous day; it does not change what the September 5 report said at the time. SteamDB also cautions that chart data is limited. SteamDB’s Silksong charts show the recorded peak.
The first-place Top Sellers claim remains unverified here
The reviewed sources do not establish when, where, or on which Top Sellers chart Silksong held first place. Steam’s live Top Sellers page is a changing snapshot, and its October 8, 2026 listing does not establish a launch-era rank. SteamDB’s weekly global archive places the game at number 40 for October 7–14, 2025; that later week is not evidence for or against an earlier, momentary first-place position. Launch context and playing the game
Team Cherry developed and published Hollow Knight: Silksong, which launched on September 4, 2025. Steam describes it as a single-player action-adventure game, lists controller support, and recommends playing with a controller. That recommendation makes a Steam-compatible controller an option, not a requirement, and does not establish that every controller model is compatible.
Steam’s store listing includes Windows, macOS, and SteamOS/Linux. For Windows, the listing specifies a minimum of 4 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 560 Ti or Radeon HD 7750-class GPU, DirectX 10, and 8 GB of storage. Its recommended Windows configuration is 8 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon R9 380-class GPU, DirectX 10, and 8 GB of storage.
