The most reliable documented starting approach is to stay grounded, attack falling fleas in a steady rhythm, and use side-slashes to keep normal fleas near one another. This is not the same as the later Flea Juggle challenge associated with Seth, which lists a score of 55.
How Flea Juggle works
Speak to Fleamaster Mooshka at the Festival of the Flea to start the game. Fleas enter from both sides and fall in accelerating arcs. Hit a flea while it is falling to send it back into the air; hitting it from above does not count. A point is awarded when a flea leaves after being hit three or four times. The run ends when three fleas reach the ground, or if Hornet walks off the stage or jumps too far to the side. The Festival of the Flea reference documents these rules.
Flea types and increasing pressure
The number of fleas on screen increases as the score rises: one at the start, two after one flea, three after eight, and four after twenty-five. Most fleas take three hits; Grishkin and Varga take four. Brew-soaked fleas move very quickly, while Grishkin and Varga have faster, floatier arcs. As more fleas overlap, tracking their positions and choosing a safe hit becomes more demanding.
A grounded rhythm is the best baseline
Begin by staying on the ground and attacking consistently as fleas arrive. Grounded play avoids adding jump timing to an already changing rhythm, and it gives you a repeatable way to meet fleas as they descend. Mooshka’s in-game instruction is: “Strike fleas upwards and keep them airborne for as long as possible.”

Use side-slashes to steer normal fleas: they travel in the direction of the hit, so sending them the same way can keep several close together. That is easier to manage than scattering them toward opposite edges. Up-slashes are less predictable because they may send a flea in either direction.
Choose attacks and equipment for control
The Shaman Crest can extend horizontal and vertical attack reach. Its lingering energy wave can also connect slightly before a flea enters normal range, giving you a little more room to time an attack. Crests affect Festival games, but tools and Silk Skills do not.

- Hollow Knight: Silksong is the epic sequel to Hollow Knight, the award winning action-adventure.
- Journey to all-new lands, discover new powers, battle vast hordes of bugs and beasts and uncover secrets tied to your nature and your past.
There is no established universally best Crest or guaranteed score strategy. The useful comparison is practical: grounded side-slashes offer a consistent rhythm and directional control; up-slashes can make flea placement harder to predict; and the Shaman Crest offers additional reach. Choose the approach that helps you see and control the falling fleas rather than chasing them across the stage.
Should you jump?
Jumping is a situational option, not a proven shortcut. Players in a September 24–25, 2025 Steam discussion about Flea Juggle disagree: some recommend staying grounded and attacking in one direction, while others suggest controlled jumps or jumping to recover a difficult position. One player advises never leaving the ground; another recommends hitting near the peak of a jump to maintain timing. These are individual strategies, not guarantees.

If jumping breaks your timing or pushes Hornet toward the edge, return to grounded attacks. If a flea is awkwardly placed, a deliberate jump can be worth trying, but avoid turning every hit into a jump when a steady ground rhythm is working.

The target depends on the progression challenge. The Ecstasy of the End Wish lists 30 for Flea Juggle, 65 for Flea Dodge, and 42 for Flea Bounce. The Festival reference separately lists a later Flea Juggle score of 55 for Seth. Do not treat 55 as the Wish requirement.

The Wish is offered at Bellhart’s Wishwall or by Fleamaster Mooshka in Act 3 after the relevant flea-collection progression. Beat the required score in each of the three flea games and speak with Mooshka. The resulting piñata sequence rewards Rosaries and Shell Shards; on its tenth strike it yields Pale Oil, and picking up the Pale Oil completes the Wish. The Wish requirements and reward sequence are described in the Wishes reference.
