How Do Fortnite Redeem Codes Work? A Guide to Each Code Type

Fortnite codes follow different redemption paths: product codes go through Epic, Gift Cards add account balance, and V-Bucks cards redeem for V-Bucks only.

Fortnite redeem codes do not all work the same way. An Epic product code adds a game or product to your Epic account, a Fortnite Gift Card adds money to your Epic account balance, and a V-Bucks card adds V-Bucks. Identify the card or code first, then redeem it while signed in to the Epic account connected to the Fortnite profile you want to use.

Which kind of Fortnite redeem code do you have?

Code or card What it adds Where to redeem Important difference
Epic product code A retail game or product on your Epic account Epic Games Launcher or Epic Games Store website A successfully redeemed game appears in the Launcher Library. Epic product-code instructions
Fortnite Gift Card Monetary value added to your Epic account balance epicgames.com/redeem The balance can be used for eligible purchases through Epic’s payment system, including V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew, and Packs. The card currency must match the currency of your Epic account balance. Gift Card instructions
V-Bucks card A stated amount of V-Bucks fortnite.com/vbuckscard It redeems only for V-Bucks. PlayStation and Xbox redemptions require an additional code step with Sony or Microsoft. V-Bucks card instructions

Fortnite Gift Cards and V-Bucks cards are not interchangeable. Epic says V-Bucks cards are being replaced by Fortnite Gift Cards, though legacy V-Bucks cards may still be available in some regions or from some retailers during the rollout. Check the printed card name and follow its matching redemption flow. Epic’s card comparison

How to redeem an Epic game or product code

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher and sign in to the Epic account that should receive the product.
  2. Open the account menu, select Redeem Code, enter the code, and select Redeem. Alternatively, sign in to the Epic Games Store website and use its code redemption page.
  3. Look for the success message. If the code was for a game, Epic says it should appear in your Launcher Library.

How to redeem a Fortnite Gift Card

  1. Scan the card’s QR code or go to epicgames.com/redeem and enter the PIN.
  2. Sign in to the Epic account—or console account—intended to receive the balance.
  3. Check the account information shown on the page. Link an additional account if prompted, review the details, and redeem.

Gift Card availability is regional, and the card’s currency must match the currency of the Epic account balance. Epic describes Gift Cards as available physically and online, but specific availability depends on region. Epic’s Fortnite Gift Card information

How to redeem a V-Bucks card

  1. Sign in to the Epic account linked to the Fortnite profile that should receive the V-Bucks. Check the displayed Epic name against your Fortnite account before continuing.
  2. Go to fortnite.com/vbuckscard, select Get Started, and enter the PIN without dashes.
  3. Select the platform linked to your Epic account, then review the account, device, and balance information before confirming.
  4. For PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile, Epic says the V-Bucks can then be spent in Fortnite. For PlayStation or Xbox, Epic provides a second code; redeem that code through Sony or Microsoft on the platform account linked to Epic.

Keep the purchase receipt until redemption is complete. Epic may request it if you need help with a card redemption.

Fix common redemption problems

The code was redeemed on the wrong account

Before confirming a redemption, compare the displayed Epic account name with the Fortnite profile you intend to use. The V-Bucks platform selector only lists devices linked to the currently signed-in Epic account. If the wrong account was used, the next step depends on the code and account; consult Epic Support rather than assuming the credit can be moved.

The PlayStation or Xbox second code is missing

For a V-Bucks card redemption, find the generated code at Epic Account Settings → Transactions → V-Bucks Card Redemption. Epic says the PlayStation code is 12 characters and the Xbox code is 25 characters. Redeem it on the corresponding platform account linked to Epic. Epic’s instructions for finding the console code

The console code is rejected

Confirm that you are signed in to the Sony or Microsoft account linked to the Epic account, and enter the code as displayed without dashes. If it still fails after following Epic’s steps, Epic directs players to the relevant platform’s support because the second redemption is processed there. Epic’s console redemption instructions

A V-Bucks card is blocked by a country or region mismatch

Epic says the country or region where a V-Bucks card was purchased must match the country or region on the Epic account. Check both before attempting redemption. Epic’s region restriction guidance

Fortnite Physical Gift Card
  • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
  • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
  • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
  • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

V-Bucks purchased with Epic account balance do not show on Nintendo Switch

Epic says Nintendo Switch does not support Fortnite Shared Wallet. V-Bucks bought with Epic account balance may need to be spent through the web Item Shop or on a platform that supports Shared Wallet and is connected to the Epic account. Items purchased with V-Bucks remain available across platforms. Epic’s Shared Wallet explanation
