How many bosses are in Hollow Knight?
The Hollow Knight Wiki’s boss list counts 47 bosses when variations are included. That is a roster count, not a mandatory checklist for completing the story. The count includes Zote the Mighty, who cannot damage the Knight, and excludes two encounters the page classifies as fake-outs.

Variations also affect the total. Almost every fight appears in the Hall of Gods in additional forms: Attuned resembles the original fight, Ascended deals double damage, and Radiant makes any damage fatal. A player pursuing an ending does not need to clear every version in the Hall of Gods.
How many do you need to beat for the standard ending?
The standard ending concludes with the Hollow Knight. To reach that fight, the three Dreamers’ seals must be destroyed, which opens the Black Egg. The Dreamers are access requirements; they should not be casually added to the boss roster count as though all three were required boss fights.

The standard ending applies if you defeat the Hollow Knight without first acquiring Void Heart. The sources establish these story requirements, but do not establish a universal minimum number of distinct boss encounters for every possible route, skip, or exploit. So it is more accurate to name the required access steps and final boss than to claim an exact total for every run.
What changes for the other endings?
Hollow Knight has five endings, according to the wiki’s endings guide. The requirements differ from the standard ending:

- Dream No More: Acquire Void Heart and, during the Hollow Knight sequence, use the Awoken Dream Nail to reach and defeat the Radiance.
The endings guide says that loading a save after an ending returns the Knight to the relevant bench with the save state preserved from before the final bosses were defeated, so another ending can be pursued on the same profile. One exception matters: giving the Delicate Flower to the Godseeker makes the normal Embrace the Void ending inaccessible.

No. The completion checklist’s base-game boss category has 14 bosses worth one percentage point each, for 14 percentage points total. That category is not the number of bosses needed for the standard ending, and it is not the entire 112% checklist. The checklist includes many other categories; some 100% achievement routes can also draw percentage points from content packs.

After acquiring World Sense, you can view the current completion percentage. The Pure Completion achievement is tied to reaching 112% and finishing the game; the 100% and 112% completion achievements are awarded after an ending.
