Facepunch has described a particular temporary game-ban policy with bans lasting up to one year, while its separate policy for bans for playing alongside cheaters says those bans are permanent. Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) bans follow a different appeal route, and the official material cited here does not establish one universal EAC ban duration. Check the notice to identify who issued your ban and which category it covers.
How long is a Rust game ban?
It depends on the ban category and issuer. Facepunch’s QoL Update described temporary game bans for repeatedly playing alongside cheaters that could be extended across all servers and last up to one year. That is a maximum for the specific temporary-ban policy described in that update—not a general duration for all Rust bans. Facepunch’s QoL Update gives the historical context.
Facepunch Support describes a separate category—bans for playing with cheaters—as permanent and says those bans do not expire. The official policy does not provide a countdown or end date for that category. Facepunch Support’s article on bans for playing with cheaters was updated November 13, 2023.
What does your ban notice mean?
Start with the issuer and the category named in the notice. Similar-looking ban messages can involve different policies, so do not apply Facepunch’s one-year figure or its permanent-ban policy to a notice issued by another authority.

Do Rust bans expire?
Some bans may have a stated temporary duration; others do not expire. For the Facepunch ban-for-playing-with-cheaters category, Support explicitly says the bans are permanent. Do not assume that every Rust ban shares that policy—or that a temporary-ban maximum applies to a different category.
Can you appeal a Rust ban?
Facepunch bans for playing with cheaters
Facepunch Support says this category is final and that appeals sent to its support team are automatically rejected. The article does not promise that waiting, opening a ticket, or appealing will lift the ban.

EAC-issued bans
The Rust PC EULA distinguishes EAC-issued bans from Facepunch action and directs players to Easy Anti-Cheat’s appeal process. It does not state a duration for each EAC ban subtype or guarantee an appeal result. Follow the route for the issuer named in your notice.
Facepunch-issued bans outside that category
The EULA says players with questions about a Facepunch-issued ban may contact support; Facepunch will use reasonable efforts to explain the action. That is not a promise of reversal. Use the support route only when it matches the issuer and category shown in your notice.

Can you still play on community servers if you’re banned?
Facepunch Support says players affected by the specific ban-for-playing-with-cheaters category it documents can continue to play on community servers. That statement is limited to that category; it does not establish access for every type of ban or every server.

No. In a retrospective published January 1, 2026, Facepunch reported applying 42,000+ temporary bans and 296,000+ permanent bans in 2025, and described the combined total as more than 338,000. Those are rounded counts of bans applied during 2025, not a live count, a prediction, or a duration rule for any individual case. Facepunch’s 2025 retrospective.
