Turbo is a feature on some Nintendo Switch controllers—not a universal Switch setting—that repeatedly sends input for a button. Depending on the controller, it can repeat only while you hold the button, or keep repeating after you let go using a feature called Turbo Hold.
What turbo does
When turbo is assigned to a button, the controller sends that button’s input repeatedly instead of only once per press. This can reduce repeated tapping in games that recognize the input. Turbo behavior and availability depend on the controller, and a game may not support the feature.
How to set turbo on the HORI NSW-107
The following sequence applies specifically to the HORI NSW-107 wired controller. Its manual lists A, B, X, Y, L, R, ZL, ZR, and directional-pad inputs as assignable.
- Hold the Turbo button and press the button you want to assign. Turbo is active while you hold that assigned button.
- Press the assigned button again to select Turbo Hold. It continues sending repeated input without requiring you to hold the button.
- Press the assigned button once more to turn turbo off for it.
- To clear all turbo settings, hold Turbo and press Select.
The NSW-107 does not support Turbo Hold on directional-pad directions. Its wired turbo function also does not operate when the USB connector is unplugged. Set the NSW-107 repeat speed
The NSW-107 manual documents three rates: 5, 10, or 20 activations per second. The default is 10 per second. These are rates for this controller, not a Switch-wide standard. HORI NSW-107 Instruction Manual (English)
Turbo controls vary by controller
Do not assume the NSW-107 button sequence applies to another controller. For example, the separate HORI NSW-326 manual documents Quick Turbo: hold its designated Quick Turbo button together with another supported button to activate continuous input. The NSW-326 also offers 5, 10, and 20 activations per second, with 10 per second as the default; its selected speed applies to Turbo Mode, Turbo Hold, and Quick Turbo, and is saved when the controller is unplugged. What to check if you want turbo
- Confirm the exact model supports it. Turbo is a controller feature, not a setting available on every Switch controller.
- Check which mode it offers. Turbo Hold and Quick Turbo are distinct options documented on particular models; a controller may not have either.
- Look up assignable buttons and connection limits. These can differ by model, including whether a function requires a wired connection.
- Check game compatibility. A controller feature cannot make a game recognize repeated input if the software does not support it.
HORI’s support page lists the HORIPAD Turbo (NSW-457U) as a Switch product example. Its model number is different from the NSW-107 and NSW-326, so use the NSW-457U’s own manual rather than transferring either model’s instructions. HORI Nintendo Switch Product Support
