To reduce insanity in Deepwoken, restore your sanity: sit at a campfire, use a Heartening potion, or trigger a qualifying talent or origin feature. In the Depths, passive sanity regeneration is disabled, so the right option depends on what you have available and which origin your character has.
First, distinguish sanity from insanity
Sanity is the meter; losing sanity increases insanity. So if you are asking how to “lose insanity” or get your sanity back, the goal is to restore sanity rather than look for a separate insanity-reduction action. The Deepwoken Wiki’s Insanity page lists campfires and Heartening potions as recovery methods.
Ways to restore sanity during a run
| Method | What it requires | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Campfire | Access to a campfire | Sit at it to restore sanity. The community wiki reports a rate of 0.5 sanity per second; treat that figure as version-sensitive. |
| Heartening potion | A Heartening potion | Use the potion to restore sanity. The wiki lists its effect, but its current recipe and details are not established here. |
| Conquer Your Fears | The character must have this talent | Restores sanity when Depths creatures die, and when a nearby ally grips a humanoid target. See the Conquer Your Fears talent reference for its triggers. |
| Origin-specific aura | Deepbound at Castle Light, or Ignition Delver at Chariot’s Spire | The wiki describes passive sanity recovery within the relevant location’s aura. These origin-linked features are not a universal solution for other origins. |
What to do if you are not Deepbound
Castle Light’s sanity aura is described as Deepbound-exclusive. If you are another origin, do not count on reaching Castle Light to recover sanity through that aura. Use a campfire or Heartening potion if available, or rely on Conquer Your Fears if your character has it. The Insanity page also describes an aura at Chariot’s Spire for Ignition Delvers, not for every origin.
Stop the drain while you recover
The wiki says passive sanity drain occurs in the First Layer of the Depths and that passive regeneration is disabled there. It also lists sanity loss from monster attacks, Deep Widow web attacks, Mindbreaking potions, Heretic’s Sutra, some Blindseer mantras, certain corrupted Resonance downsides, and specific weapon effects. If sanity keeps falling, consider whether one of these applies to your character or the situation.

- Unfazed does not restore sanity. It mitigates insanity symptoms rather than refilling the sanity meter, as described in the Unfazed talent reference.
When insanity is already severe
Insanity can become increasingly disruptive as it worsens, but exact thresholds and balance details may change. If you are close to a severe threshold, prioritize getting out of the danger area or reaching one of the recovery methods you can actually use; do not assume passive regeneration will solve the problem in the Depths.
