Blood: Fresh Supply began as a 2019 PC restoration made without the original game’s source code. Nightdive Studios rebuilt it through reverse engineering; later access to that code helped the studio verify and expand its work in the separate, multiplatform Blood: Refreshed Supply.
What was Blood: Fresh Supply?
Blood, a first-person shooter developed by Monolith Productions, first appeared in 1997. On May 9, 2019, Atari and Nightdive announced Blood: Fresh Supply, a restored and updated version for modern Windows PCs. The release included the Cryptic Passage and Plasma Pak expansions.

Nightdive’s launch announcement described a set of updates intended to make the game work on contemporary PCs while preserving its classic FPS identity. Those were publisher-advertised features, not independent performance results.
- Modern graphics APIs and high-resolution support up to 4K.
- Customizable keyboard and controller controls.
- Mod support, CD music, and MIDI music.
- Rewritten netcode advertised for online play with up to eight players, plus local split-screen.
Atari and Nightdive’s May 9, 2019 announcement lists these launch features. “Up to 4K” describes supported resolution, not guaranteed performance on every computer.

How did Nightdive remaster Blood without the original source code?
Nightdive began work on Fresh Supply without access to Blood’s original source code. The studio therefore had to reverse engineer the game rather than simply build a modern release from the original codebase. In a later account, Xbox Wire describes how the subsequent edition benefited from recovered code; Stephen Kick, Nightdive’s co-CEO, explained to the Epic Games Store that the code let the team check its earlier reverse-engineering work and add back original code.
Kick credited Monolith co-founder Jace Hall with helping locate the source code. Its recovery did not make Fresh Supply a different name for the newer release: it gave Nightdive a way to validate and extend work that had first been done under the earlier limitation.

How is Blood: Fresh Supply different from Blood: Refreshed Supply?
They are distinct releases from different stages of Nightdive’s work. Fresh Supply was the 2019 Windows PC restoration made without the source code. Refreshed Supply came later, was rebuilt using the recovered code, and was designed as a multiplatform remaster.

Nightdive co-CEO Stephen Kick told the Epic Games Store that the original contract with Atari limited Fresh Supply to PC. After Atari acquired Nightdive in 2023, the studio worked with rights-holder Warner Bros. on the later multiplatform release. Console availability is therefore a key distinction, not just a new label for the 2019 PC edition.

What did the recovered code change?
Source code gave Nightdive a reference for checking its reverse-engineering work against the original implementation. According to Kick’s Epic Games Store interview, developers used it to verify what they had reconstructed and added back some original code. That made the later remaster a more ambitious reconstruction than the first release, while keeping the goal of fidelity to the original game.
The same interview describes fan-created scenarios brought into Refreshed Supply: Marrow, described there as a 10-level episode, and Death Wish, described as a three-episode campaign. Those counts refer to the fan-made projects, not to the original Blood campaign. Exact current availability can vary by release; consult the relevant platform’s product information or release notes.

Where can you play the two editions?
Fresh Supply was announced for Windows PC. Atari’s current product page for Blood: Refreshed Supply lists physical and digital PS5 editions. The page does not establish current stock or the contents of every platform version, so check the store listing for the system you intend to use.
