The documented ways to get Exotic class items in Destiny 2: The Final Shape are completing the two-player mission Dual Destiny and earning them from Pale Heart Overthrow chests. Bungie also offered a Festival of the Lost purchase in 2024, but that was a time-limited event route—not evidence that the item is currently for sale. You must own The Final Shape to access Exotic class items, according to Bungie’s expansion information.
Which Exotic class item farm should you use?
For a mission-based route, try Dual Destiny with a partner. For repeatable Pale Heart play, farm Overthrow chests. Bungie described increasing Overthrow chest chances as players open more chests, with higher-tier chests contributing larger increases, but did not publish a percentage. The available official information is from 2024; current drop rates, eligible chest sources, and weekly reward rules are not established here.

Farm Overthrow chests in the Pale Heart
Overthrow is the clearest documented repeatable farm outside Dual Destiny. In a July 2024 announcement, Bungie said that chances would rise as players opened Overthrow chests and that higher-tier chests would provide larger increases. The same announcement said chances from unrelated free-roam Pale Heart chests would be reduced, and described accumulated chances applying to Pale Heart Lost Sectors and co-op missions. - Prioritize chests tied to Overthrow rather than assuming any Pale Heart chest counts toward the same progression.
- Higher-tier Overthrow chests were described as contributing more to the chance increase.
- Do not plan around a specific number of runs: Bungie did not publish a current percentage or guaranteed threshold in the cited information.

Get an item through Dual Destiny
Dual Destiny is the dedicated mission route. Bungie’s July 2024 post documented a weekly challenge awarding one additional item per character for a completion; it also said subsequent runs functioned normally. Whether that weekly bonus remains available should be checked in the current game.
Unlocking and launching the mission
A player answer posted on Bungie’s forum in June 2024 describes the unlock sequence: complete Overthrow in the Landing, Blooming, and Impasse, defeat the wizard that appears after each completion, then complete the timed Refraction objective. The same player says to launch the final mission with two players. This is community guidance, not a current official walkthrough; use the live map and quest prompts to confirm the steps. Can you buy a first item during an event?
During Festival of the Lost 2024, Eva offered an Exotic class item for one Eerie Engram and 2,500 candy. Bungie said players needed to own The Final Shape, but did not need to complete Dual Destiny to make that event purchase. Bungie also said obtaining the item through this route enabled Xûr purchases and Pale Heart Overthrow rewards, while Dual Destiny still had to be completed before attunement. Do you need The Final Shape?
Yes. Bungie states that ownership of The Final Shape is required to access Exotic class items. The expansion’s edition information is on Bungie Help. Owning the expansion is distinct from completing Dual Destiny: Bungie’s 2024 Festival announcement allowed that event’s purchase without mission completion, although it still required the expansion.

What drop rates and current rules are known?
The cited official Bungie posts describe relative Overthrow chance increases, not a numeric drop rate. They also do not verify October 2026 chest eligibility, current bad-luck protection, vendor stock, or whether the Dual Destiny weekly bonus persists. Treat precise percentages and guaranteed run counts as unverified unless a current in-game description or Bungie update confirms them.
