What makes the puzzle tricky
The candy names may not be equally familiar to everyone
The blue group relies on recognizing KISS, NERD, RUNT, and WHOPPER as candy names. TechRadar’s Global Editor in Chief, Marc McLaren, observed that this group “may be much easier to solve if you’re in the US”; that is a personal observation, not a measure of how familiar the names are to readers in any country.
Purple changes the spelling of the dwarf names
The final group is wordplay rather than a direct category: Doc becomes DO, Dopey becomes DOPE, Grumpy becomes GRUMP, and Sleepy becomes SLEEP after removing each name’s last letter.

How Connections works
Connections presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four based on a shared link. The link can be a straightforward category or a wordplay pattern, and an individual word may seem to fit more than one group. TechRadar and Forbes describe the groups as color-coded, with yellow generally easiest and purple often hardest; they also report that players can make up to four mistakes before the game ends.
