This is the archived New York Times Connections puzzle for Thursday, March 27, 2025, game #655—not a current daily puzzle. Its four groups are AFFECT, YOU GOT IT!, SLANG FOR MONEY, and objects formed with the prefix “micro-.” If you want to solve it yourself first, use the hints below before opening the full answer reveal.

Hints for Connections #655

  1. Look for four verbs that can mean to influence or affect something.
  2. Some words are things someone might say or hear to confirm that an answer is correct.
  3. Consider informal U.S. words associated with cash.
  4. For the final four, try adding the same prefix to each word to make a familiar object.

Why the tempting combinations are tricky

Several words invite overlapping associations. SCRATCH, CHIP, DING, and TOUCH can bring minor damage to mind; SWAY, WAVE, MOVE, and CHANGE can suggest motion or influence. Those links are tempting, but a Connections category must account for exactly four words in a way that fits the intended set. Check whether a proposed relationship works for all four and leaves a coherent board behind.

The money category may also be less obvious to players unfamiliar with U.S. slang. CHANGE, GREEN, PAPER, and SCRATCH are all informal terms associated with money in that context.

Full answer reveal

Warning: the complete solution is below.

Category Words How the connection works
AFFECT MOVE, REACH, SWAY, TOUCH Each can mean to influence or affect someone or something.
YOU GOT IT! BINGO, CORRECT, DING, RIGHT Each can signal that something is correct or that someone has got the answer.
SLANG FOR MONEY CHANGE, GREEN, PAPER, SCRATCH These are informal, U.S.-oriented terms associated with cash.
OBJECTS WITH THE PREFIX “MICRO-” CHIP, PHONE, SCOPE, WAVE Add “micro-” to make microchip, microphone, microscope, and microwave.

How difficult was puzzle #655?

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 answer guide reports a difficulty rating of 4.2 out of 5 and a 34% solve rate, attributing both figures to the Connections Companion archive. These are secondary-reported archive metrics, not independently verified official New York Times statistics.
