NYT Connections puzzle #748 was the board for Saturday, June 28, 2025. Its four groups are things a dog can fetch; words meaning “a great many”; possible results of a traffic violation; and surnames of Industrial Revolution inventors. The answer list below is for 2025—not a different Connections board that appeared on June 28, 2026.

Connections #748 answers for June 28, 2025

Color Category Words
Yellow Things a dog can fetch BALL, BONE, FRISBEE, STICK
Green Great many DROVE, HOST, LOAD, SCORE
Blue Possible results of a traffic violation BOOT, POINTS, TICKET, TOW
Purple Industrial Revolution inventors BELL, DIESEL, SINGER, WATT

How the four groups fit together

Yellow: Things a dog can fetch

BALL, BONE, FRISBEE, and STICK are all objects a dog might retrieve. This is the most literal group: each word names a possible fetch item.

Green: Great many

DROVE, HOST, LOAD, and SCORE can each mean a large number or amount, as in “a host of guests” or “a score of people.” Here, SCORE is a quantity, not a result or an achievement.

Blue: Possible results of a traffic violation

BOOT, POINTS, TICKET, and TOW are potential consequences of a traffic violation. BOOT refers to a device immobilizing a vehicle, rather than footwear.

Purple: Industrial Revolution inventors

BELL, DIESEL, SINGER, and WATT are surnames: Alexander Graham Bell, Rudolf Diesel, Isaac Singer, and James Watt. They are people’s names here, not a household object, a sewing machine, or a unit of power.

Why the board can be tricky

Several words invite alternate readings. BOOT can mean footwear, SCORE can mean a result, BELL can name an object, and WATT is also a unit. Those familiar meanings can distract from the intended categories. Group words by a shared relationship across all four entries rather than locking in a set after finding only two or three apparent matches.
