How the groups fit together
Three groups use meanings
The sewing set collects terms such as a dart, hem, pleat, and seam. The food-preservation set combines familiar methods: canning, curing, drying, and freezing. In the “Sharp quality” set, the words point to different shades of sharpness: bite and edge are direct associations, while punch and spice convey force or intensity.
The bird group depends on wordplay
CONDO, HAW, HERO, and LOO look like ordinary words on the board. Each is formed by removing the final letter from a bird name: condor, hawk, heron, and loon. That letter-removal pattern distinguishes this set from the three semantic groups.
