How to get add-ons on Xbox
Minecraft calls its supported Bedrock custom content “add-ons.” They can change or add blocks, items, mobs, recipes, and other game content. Browse the Marketplace in Minecraft and check the live listing for current availability, compatibility, and price. Marketplace content may require Minecoins or access through Marketplace Pass; Minecoins are virtual currency, and Xbox is listed as compatible on the official Minecoins page.
Download content you already own or can access
- Start Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and open Marketplace.
- Choose My Library.
- Check Owned or Marketplace Pass.
- Select the content and choose the available action—such as Download, Create this World, or Equip.
If an item you expect to see is missing, confirm Minecraft is using the gamertag and account that obtained it. Minecraft’s Marketplace guidance explains obtaining content and downloading it after purchase; follow the current in-game listing rather than relying on an old price or catalog description.
How to activate an add-on in a world
Downloading or obtaining an add-on does not by itself mean it is active in every world. Enable it in the settings for the world where you want to use it. Minecraft Help’s add-on instructions describe the following paths.

For a new single-player world
- Choose Play and start creating a new world, or choose the relevant Marketplace world.
- In the world-creation settings, open Resource packs or Behavior packs.
- Find the add-on under Available and activate it.
- Create the world.
For an existing single-player world
- Choose Play.
- Select the pencil icon beside the world you want to edit.
- Open Resource packs or Behavior packs.
- Find the add-on under Available and activate it.
- Select Play to enter the world.
For a Realm
Open the Realm settings, edit the relevant world slot, and select Resource Packs or Behavior Packs. Activate the add-on, confirm the change, and allow time for the updated world to upload. Bedrock players who join that Realm automatically download and apply add-ons activated on it, according to Minecraft Help’s add-on instructions.
Can you install Java mods on Xbox?
No: the Xbox process described here is for Bedrock add-ons, not Java Edition mod loaders. Minecraft’s separate support article about third-party mods applies to Java Edition and says those mods are unsupported by Minecraft Support; it does not give Xbox installation steps.

The official guidance cited here documents Marketplace content and its activation in Bedrock worlds. It does not establish a safe, supported, model-by-model method for importing arbitrary third-party files directly onto Xbox. Minecraft Preview is a separate in-development Bedrock install available through the Xbox Store, but it is not required to use Marketplace add-ons in the regular game; see Minecraft Preview FAQ.
