Solving context

Connections asks players to sort 16 words into four groups of four. The Forbes guide notes that red herrings can make groups appear to overlap and that players may make three incorrect guesses; a fourth wrong guess ends the game. A useful check before submitting is whether all four words follow one tight rule, rather than merely sharing a possible association. The guide describes the puzzle as a New York Times daily word game and says its archive is available to readers with an All Access or Games subscription; current access terms may vary. The answer above is corroborated by two secondary guides, not an official NYT answer key.
