Defeat a Scavenger Matron to get one Scavenger Matron Head. The quest-marked Springlands encounter is at Hill of Scavengers, northeast of the Springlands Ancient Spire. Save the head if you still need to upgrade your Flame Altar from Level 2 to Level 3; trophy crafting also consumes heads.
Where to find a Scavenger Matron
The clearest route is the Springlands encounter: travel to Hill of Scavengers, northeast of the Springlands Ancient Spire. The Official Enshrouded Wiki says the location is revealed by the quest The Alchemist’s Rumors. Follow the quest marker if you have it, since the wiki does not provide a more detailed route.
Scavenger Matrons are also listed at these locations:
- Revelwood: Glennwood’s End and Fawnsong Frontier.
- Nomad Highlands: ruins northwest of the Mining Rift, Lupa’s Lair, and Surat’s Rest.
- Kindlewastes: Ocean’s Heart and East Lapis.
The wiki lists these as encounter locations but does not give comparable quest or access details for them. Its entries do not state a game version, so check your in-game map and quest markers if an update has changed a location. Official Enshrouded Wiki: Scavenger Matron

Prepare for the Matron’s variant
The wiki describes two behavior variants. Gorger throws poison in three directions toward its target; Grizzler summons reinforcements. Prepare for the behavior of the Matron you encounter rather than assuming every location has the same variant. Official Enshrouded Wiki: Scavenger Matron

Flame Altar progression
The head is one of the sacrificial offerings required to strengthen a Flame Altar from Level 2 to Level 3. That upgrade allows access to higher-level shrouded areas. The available wiki entry does not specify the complete offering list, so check the altar in-game for the other requirements. Trophy crafting
You can also use Scavenger Matron helmets—called heads in the altar requirement—for trophy decorations. The basic trophy uses one helmet, while higher tiers consume more:
