A reliable route is to start a snowball fight, let Ciri meet the Lodge alone, let her vent in Avallac’h’s laboratory, accompany her to Skjall’s grave, and go straight to Velen instead of visiting Emhyr in Vizima. Dialogue wording can vary by language or platform, so choose the response with the described intent.
Choices for the Witcher ending
The game tracks how Geralt supports Ciri in key scenes. She needs at least three positive moments to return after confronting the White Frost. The five choices below provide a straightforward route; the first, third, fourth, and fifth are positive moments, while skipping Emhyr keeps the Witcher outcome available if Ciri survives.
- After the Battle of Kaer Morhen: When Ciri is upset, choose the response suggesting you do something to lift her spirits. This starts a snowball fight and counts as a positive moment. If you are trying to maximize positive marks, avoid telling her she does not have to be good at everything.
- When Ciri wants to go after Imlerith: Choose the route to Velen and skip the visit to Emhyr in Vizima. Visiting the Emperor is the route-setting choice for the Empress outcome. If you choose to visit him anyway, refuse the reward he offers; accepting it counts as a negative moment.
- During Final Preparations: Let Ciri go to the meeting with Philippa and the Lodge of Sorceresses alone. Do not insist on accompanying her.
- In Child of the Elder Blood: At Avallac’h’s laboratory, let Ciri vent and wreck the place rather than telling her to calm down.
- When Ciri asks to visit Skjall’s grave: Go with her. Refusing because there is no time is a negative response.
How Ciri’s fate and the war shape the endings
There are three major outcomes for Ciri’s story, distinguished by whether she returns after confronting the White Frost, whether she meets Emhyr, and whether Nilfgaard wins the war.
| Ciri’s outcome | Emhyr visit | War outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Ciri does not return | Not the deciding distinction | Not the deciding distinction |
| Ciri survives and becomes a witcher | Skip Emhyr in Vizima | Not required for this outcome |
| Ciri survives and becomes Empress | Visit Emhyr | Nilfgaard must win |
The “best” ending is a matter of preference: both the Witcher and Empress outcomes have Ciri survive. The guide cited here states that The Witcher 3 has 36 possible endings overall; that broader count should not be confused with these three major Ciri outcomes.

How to recognize the Witcher ending
In the epilogue, Geralt reunites with Ciri at an inn and gives her a specially made sword. That reunion and handoff confirm she has taken the witcher’s path.
