Hints for Connections #448
Try these clues in order, and pause when you have enough to make a group:
- One group contains ways to cook food in a pan.
- Another group consists of parts of the ear.
- A third group names shades of black.
- The last group lists places or contexts where you might find a driver.
Look for the most precise shared connection, not just a word that could fit several loose associations. CHAR, for example, is a cooking verb here; DRUM belongs with ear parts.

Why the trickiest words fit
CHAR belongs with cooking actions
CHAR can look like a color-related word, but in the yellow group it means to burn or blacken food. BROWN, GRILL, and SEAR are also ways to cook food in a pan.
DRUM is an ear structure
DRUM refers to the eardrum in the group with ANVIL, CANAL, and HAMMER—not a musical instrument.
“A driver” has four meanings
The purple group uses four distinct contexts: a golf driver can be in a GOLF BAG; a chauffeur may be associated with a LIMOUSINE; Adam Driver may be found on a MOVIE SET; and a driving tool belongs in a TOOLBOX.
