Connections puzzle #456 was published on Monday, September 9, 2024. Its 16 words form four groups: Get Red in the Face, Continuous, Flavor Assortment, and Sitcoms. This is an archive answer guide—not the solution to today’s puzzle.

Connections #456 full grid

The grid below reproduces the word order reported by Parade. The solved groups follow it.

COACH, FLUSH, NONSTOP, FLIGHT, SOLID, PLATTER, FULL HOUSE, GLOW, BURN, STRAIGHT, SAMPLER, BLOSSOM, COMMUNITY, TASTING, CONSECUTIVE, BLUSH.

What are the Connections #456 answers?

Category Words Why they fit
Get Red in the Face BLUSH, BURN, FLUSH, GLOW Each can describe facial redness or heat.
Continuous CONSECUTIVE, NONSTOP, SOLID, STRAIGHT Each can describe an unbroken run or sequence.
Flavor Assortment FLIGHT, PLATTER, SAMPLER, TASTING Each can refer to a selection for sampling or comparing tastes.
Sitcoms BLOSSOM, COACH, COMMUNITY, FULL HOUSE Each is a television sitcom title.

Why the Flavor Assortment group is tricky

FLIGHT has several possible associations: it can suggest aviation or a sequence, but here it means an assortment served so people can sample different flavors. That puts it with PLATTER, SAMPLER, and TASTING. TechRadar’s writer described noticing the menu-related words but not recognizing this sense of FLIGHT before selecting it from the remaining words; that is one solver’s account, not a measure of how difficult the group was for everyone.

How the overlapping clues resolve

The puzzle’s categories rely on words that can shift meaning with context. SOLID and STRAIGHT fit an unbroken run alongside NONSTOP and CONSECUTIVE; FLIGHT belongs with tasting terms rather than an aviation or sequence interpretation. The red-face group collects four words for visible redness or heat, while the remaining four words are sitcom titles.
