NYT Connections game #472 was the puzzle for Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Start with the hint ladder below; the category labels and four-word groups are hidden farther down for spoilers.

Pause here if you want to solve the puzzle without seeing the groups. Reveal one clue at a time:
- The first group is about achievements involving three.
- The second collects things you need to paint a room.
- The third consists of foods named after cities.
- For the trickiest group, think of familiar phrases that end with “Derby.”

The tempting overlap
ROLLER may suggest “roller derby,” but in this puzzle it belongs with DROP CLOTH, PAINT, and TAPE: the room-painting supplies group. The purple answers instead complete the phrases Demolition Derby, Home Run Derby, Kentucky Derby, and Soap Box Derby.
