That event is over, so its Rift rewards are not a current unlock route. The game’s July 2024 patch notes also announced purchase availability from July 23, 2024, but that announcement does not establish whether he can be purchased now.
How the free Agent Smith unlock worked
During the event, players progressed through the Rift mode event track to earn enough tiers to reach Agent Smith’s reward. MultiVersus’ July 3, 2024 patch notes said: “If players complete enough tiers in the ‘Beat Rifts, Get Agent Smith Free!’ event, they can begin playing with him as early as July 8!” The notes do not specify the required number of tiers or Rift boss clears.

- Open the “Beat Rifts, Get Agent Smith Free!” event track.
- Play Rift mode and progress through the event tiers until Agent Smith’s reward is reached.
- Claim the reward during the event’s claim window.
These are historical steps, not instructions for starting the event now. The event listing records the event running from May 28 through July 23, 2024, with reward claims available through July 30, 2024.
What about buying Agent Smith?
The official July 2024 patch notes announced that Agent Smith would be available for purchase starting July 23, 2024. That was the later route after his early event access, but the dated announcement does not verify present-day availability. Check your installed game and account to see what options, if any, are available to you; do not treat the old purchase date as proof that a current purchase is possible.

Can you unlock him in MultiVersus now?
The documented free event route has ended, and the available official announcement does not establish a current alternative. A MultiVersus Wiki entry reports that online functionality shut down on May 30, 2025, and says offline play remained for players who had logged in during Season 5. That is a secondary-source report, not an official support guarantee about an individual account’s access or unlocks. Check your own installed game and account state rather than assuming Agent Smith can still be earned or bought.
