Theme and spangram

The theme is “Hold up…” The spangram is ALLRISE, usually written as “ALL RISE” for readability. The puzzle archive prints it without a space. Try Hard Guides and WordFinder independently list the same date, puzzle number, theme and spangram: Try Hard Guides’ June 11, 2024 answer guide and WordFinder’s Strands archive.

Complete word list

How the answers fit “Hold up…”

  • BOOST, ELEVATE, HOIST, LEVITATE and LIFT relate directly to raising or upward movement.
  • EXALT fits figuratively: it can mean praising someone highly or raising their status.
  • SUPPORT connects through the distinct sense of holding something up or providing assistance.

ELEVATE and LEVITATE are easy to mix up: elevate means to raise something, while levitate means to rise or remain suspended.

Strands mechanics and the hint mechanic

Try Hard Guides describes Strands as a themed word-search game. According to that guide, letters can be connected in any direction without reusing or crossing them; the spangram describes the theme, touches the left and right edges, and appears in yellow. Finding three non-theme words of four or more letters earns a hint that reveals a theme word. These mechanics are attributed to the guide rather than presented as a check of current NYT instructions.
