The Rock Heart is earned through the Domain of Dragons Painting route; the Priestess Heart is obtained at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion after defeating Bayle the Dread. Your dragon form lasts until you die. Using the same heart again while transformed gives a temporary boost to its associated incantation family.
What you need before transforming
- Shadow of the Erdtree, which requires the Elden Ring base game. Bandai Namco lists an edition that includes both the base game and expansion on its official product page.
- One of the two transformation items: the Rock Heart or the Priestess Heart.
- No armor equipped when you activate the heart.
How to transform with the Rock Heart
- Complete the Domain of Dragons Painting route in Jagged Peak to obtain the Rock Heart.
- Remove all armor.
- Use the Rock Heart from your inventory. Its description says it turns the user’s human flesh into an ancient dragon while disrobed. The item details are reproduced by Elden Ring Wiki.
If you are already transformed, use the Rock Heart again to temporarily boost Dragon Communion incantations.

How to transform with the Priestess Heart
- Follow the Dragon Communion Priestess and Bayle route to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion.
- Defeat Bayle the Dread. The Priestess Heart is obtained at the altar after the fight; IGN’s Bayle walkthrough covers the boss encounter.
- Remove all armor, then use the Priestess Heart from your inventory.
While transformed, using the Priestess Heart again temporarily boosts Dragon Cult incantations. Its item details are reproduced by Elden Ring Wiki.
Which dragon heart should you get?

Both hearts require you to remove your armor to transform, and both forms last until death. Choose based on the route you want to complete and which incantation family you use.

How long does the transformation last?
The transformation cannot be undone by using the item again or by another ordinary action; it lasts until you die. The Rock Heart’s in-game description, reproduced by Elden Ring Wiki, explicitly says the change cannot be undone except by death. The Priestess Heart has the same death-ending restriction.
