Each brew adds 15 maximum HP: Yi starts at 120 HP, and eight brews raise the normal maximum to 240 HP. Pipe Vials are different—they add Medicine Pipe uses, not health-bar capacity.
How to increase Yi’s maximum health
- Reach Shennong at the Four Seasons Pavilion.
- Give him one poison to receive his first brew.
- For each brew after the first, turn in two more poisons.
- Collect each brew to add 15 to Yi’s maximum HP.
These figures are listed by the Nine Sols Wiki: Yi begins with 120 maximum HP, and eight brews bring the normal-playthrough total to 240 HP. Poison availability and prison progression affect when some turn-ins become possible, so you may not be able to reach every health increase early in the game.

The wiki also lists 255 HP as a debug-mod value, not a target for a normal playthrough.
Health upgrades versus healing upgrades
Several upgrades improve how much healing Yi can access without increasing his maximum HP. The distinction is whether an upgrade expands the health bar, adds Medicine Pipe charges, or changes healing per use or through a combat effect.

Yi can also restore health by using the Medicine Pipe, resting at a Root Node, and through some other game effects. Those recovery methods refill health; they do not permanently increase the maximum.

Which upgrade should you prioritize?
- Want a larger health bar? Turn poisons in to Shennong and collect his brews.
- Running out of healing charges? Look for Pipe Vials or make one at the Four Seasons Pavilion printer with a Herb Catalyst.
- Want more healing from each pipe use? Medical Jade boosts the amount, but damage can interrupt its gradual recovery.
- Want recovery during combat? Health Thief Jade can return HP after a successful Shadow Strike, but it depends on landing that move.
