On PC, use Roblox’s built-in Maximum Framerate setting rather than downloading an FPS unlocker. Open the in-game menu, choose Settings, then select a higher Maximum Framerate. Roblox’s Windows client supports a cap of up to 240 FPS, but that setting is a ceiling—not a promise that your computer or a particular game can reach it. This guide reflects Roblox’s documented options as of October 8, 2026.
How to raise Roblox FPS on PC
- Launch Roblox and join an experience.
- Open the in-game menu and select Settings.
- Find Maximum Framerate and choose the cap you want. The setting’s wording or availability can change; if you do not see it, check the current in-game settings and Roblox’s latest guidance.
- Return to the experience and check the actual frame rate with Shift+F5.
Roblox says the client’s default frame-rate cap is 60 FPS and Windows users can raise it up to 240 FPS. These are configuration limits, not performance guarantees. The official setting is intended to support PC displays above 60 Hz without an external download, and Roblox recommends it instead of an external unlocker: Roblox’s Maximum Framerate announcement.
Do you still need Roblox FPS Unlocker?
Usually, no. The built-in setting is the current first choice for raising Roblox’s frame-rate cap. Older tutorials for third-party unlockers describe a legacy workaround, not the default current method.
The original axstin project README described downloading a release ZIP, extracting it, and running rbxfpsunlocker.exe before or after starting Roblox. That repository was archived on June 21, 2024. Its author also clarified that the utility “will not boost Roblox’s performance in any way and only removes Roblox’s 60 FPS limit.” See the archived axstin repository for historical context; those steps are not a recommendation to download or run it now.

A separate project, rbxfps/roblox-fps-unlocker, has its own release history. Its v5.2 notes say Memory Write support was removed for Hyperion clients; earlier notes warned that the feature was unstable and not recommended with Hyperion-protected clients. This does not establish universal compatibility or safety, and the two projects should not be confused.
What to know before using an external unlocker
Roblox Support’s anti-cheat guidance states: “It’s against our rules to use modified versions of the Roblox app or any software that changes the way Roblox works.” It says repeated use could lead Roblox to temporarily suspend an account or permanently ban it. The guidance does not make an exception or guarantee safety for a particular FPS utility. Read Roblox’s Anti-cheat Messages guidance before considering software that alters the client.

Roblox’s Creator Third-Party App Terms separately restrict apps in that program from cheating, exploiting, or overriding Roblox system behavior. Those terms apply to program apps; they should not be treated as a separate ruling about every player utility.
How to check your actual Roblox FPS
In the Roblox player client, press Shift+F5 to display the debug stats summary and read the frame-rate value. Use the player rather than Roblox Studio when you want a representative gameplay reading: Studio’s own application overhead can skew performance statistics. Why FPS can remain low after raising the cap
A higher cap permits a higher frame rate; it does not make the computer render frames faster. Actual FPS depends on the PC and the workload of the experience. If the overlay stays below your selected cap, the cap is not necessarily malfunctioning.
- Check the client reading: use Shift+F5 in the player, not Studio.
- Compare consistently: Roblox recommends setting Graphics Mode to manual and raising graphics quality when evaluating frame rate, so the frame-rate manager does not affect the comparison. This is a diagnostic approach, not a universal performance fix.
- Consider the display separately: a high-refresh-rate monitor is optional. Compare refresh rate, resolution, panel type, and whether your PC can render at the target rate. A 144 Hz monitor does not by itself unlock a setting or guarantee 144 FPS.
