Then press ~ on an English/US keyboard, or assign a different key to toggleconsole if that key does not work with your layout.
Enable the console in Counter-Strike 2
- Start Counter-Strike 2 and go to the main menu.
- Select the gear icon to open Settings.
- Choose the Game tab.
- In the Game section, set Enable Developer Console (~) to Yes.
- Press
~to open the console on an English/US keyboard configuration. Steam Support describes the console as “a text-based input/output interface to execute commands or change global settings.” Steam Support’s Counter-Strike 2 instructions
If the console key does not work
The key that produces ~ varies with keyboard layout, so the same physical key may not work for everyone. Bind the console toggle to a key that suits your setup instead. Steam Support gives this example:
bind "F12" "toggleconsole"
Function keys may work well, but Steam Support notes that not every key can be bound and advises avoiding ordinary letter and number keys. Steam Support’s console troubleshooting guidance
If the console closes while you type
Steam Support reports that non-English keyboard layouts can cause the developer console to disappear while typing. Its suggested workarounds are:

- After opening the console, press
A,E,I,O, orU, then pressBackspace. - Bind
toggleconsoleto a different key, such as a function key.

The menu path above is documented for Counter-Strike 2. Steam Support’s instructions distinguish CS2 from its general Valve-game guidance, so do not assume older Counter-Strike releases use the same setting name or menu path.
