How to start the “Lord of Lies” quest
- Use a Seasonal Realm character. Blizzard’s instructions specify a character created on the Seasonal Realm.
- Complete the base-game campaign. Blizzard lists campaign completion as a requirement.
- Travel to Kyovashad. Go to the city center.
- Speak to the Stranger. Find the Stranger beside the Waypoint and talk to them to embark on “Lord of Lies,” the Season 8 quest associated with Belial’s Return. Blizzard does not say that owning the Vessel of Hatred expansion is required to start it. Blizzard’s Season 8 instructions
Where is the Stranger in Kyovashad?
The Stranger is in the city center, next to Kyovashad’s Waypoint. The quest giver is not described as being at an Apparition Incursion site.

Why isn’t the Belial seasonal quest showing up?
First check that you are using a Seasonal Realm character and have completed the base-game campaign, then return to the Stranger beside the Waypoint in Kyovashad. These are the prerequisites Blizzard lists for Season 8’s “Lord of Lies” quest.
Availability is a separate issue. Blizzard’s Season 8 article documents how that season’s quest began, but the official Diablo IV season page currently promotes Season of Hell’s Legacy. The pages reviewed do not establish whether the Belial’s Return questline remains playable in the live game, so the Season 8 steps should not be taken as confirmation that it can still be launched today.

Do Apparition Incursions unlock the quest?
No prerequisite link is stated. Blizzard describes Apparition Incursions as a separate Season 8 activity: they appear in different parts of Sanctuary’s wilderness every few minutes, can be located on the map, and are open to characters on any Difficulty Level. Killing their Apparition bosses grants Boss Powers, but Blizzard does not list the activity as a requirement for finding the Stranger or starting “Lord of Lies.” Blizzard’s Season 8 article
