Hold the bill under the in-game UV light: marked bills fluoresce red. Gang marks are described as smaller, bold symbols such as a small X or square- and hourglass-like designs. A thin X across the whole note is a police mark, while an eye on the left is an FDI mark—not a gang mark.
How to check a bill
- Use the in-game UV light. Inspect the note under ultraviolet light. The game wiki says marked bills show fluorescent marks that glow red.
- Identify the symbol. If a red mark appears, check its shape and position against the distinctions below. Player descriptions are useful clues, but the exact designs are not documented in an official developer guide.
- For a pile of notes, use the Marked Bills Sorter. The game wiki says this in-game equipment separates marked bills from unmarked ones.
Gang marks versus common lookalikes
| Mark | What to look for | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Gang | Small, bold symbols; players describe a small X and square-, striped-, or hourglass-like forms. | These are the gang-like shapes described in player discussions. See the Steam discussion and another player discussion. |
| Police | A thin X spanning the whole bill. | Do not mistake this full-note X for a gang mark; this distinction comes from player descriptions. |
| FDI | An eye symbol on the left side. | This is described as an FDI mark, not a gang mark. |
The community wiki lists multiple mark categories, including three gang variants—Yakuza, Mafia, and Cartel—rather than a single gang symbol. It also lists FDI, Police, and Unknown categories. The source does not establish an official visual guide for every variant. [Marked Bills wiki entry]
What if a design is visible without UV?
Do not assume ordinary printed bill art is a mark. A player discussion advises distinguishing designs visible in normal light from the red UV-reactive marks, but that is community advice rather than an official game rule. If a symbol is unclear, prioritize the UV appearance and the job’s stated requirement. [Player discussion]
Why marked bills may be easy to miss
The wiki says marked bills can appear in any currency or denomination and may be mixed into cash delivered to you. A denomination or currency alone therefore does not identify a gang mark; inspect the note under UV instead. [Marked Bills wiki entry]
