To solve a Devious Painting puzzle in Once Human, find the Artist’s Diary beside a painting, interact with it, press Q to activate Spacetime, and inspect the revealed painting. Use its map clue to find the matching spot on the world map, then travel there and collect the loot crate.

How to solve a Devious Painting puzzle

  1. Find the painting and Artist’s Diary. The diary is the clue that starts the puzzle.
  2. Interact with the diary, then press Q. This activates Spacetime and reveals a painting on an easel.
  3. Inspect the revealed painting. It shows a map clue. Compare its landscape and features with the world map to identify the marked location.
  4. Travel to the matching location and collect the crate. Upcomer describes the loot as appearing in a glowing spot on the ground. Upcomer’s guide and Game8’s guide describe this same basic sequence.

Painting locations, crate locations, and reported rewards

The coordinates and rewards below are from Game8’s guide, last updated September 29, 2024; they have not been independently verified against the current game version. Use nearby landmarks to orient yourself, and check the in-game map if a coordinate or location does not line up.

These are guide-reported rewards, not a guarantee that every item remains available or unchanged. Game8 says it ended its Once Human coverage in December 2025, so treat the guide as a location reference rather than confirmation of current-version details.

Which Devious Painting should you do first?

Choose based on which region you can reach and which reported reward is useful to you. Game8 lists different weapon accessories and Energy Link amounts by region, but does not establish a universally best puzzle; your progression and current scenario affect which is practical.
