The theme is color rhymes; the spangram is COLORRHYMES. If you meant puzzle #407, that is dated April 14 and has a spring-flowers theme.
April 13, 2025, Strands answers
Spoilers below. The date-matched archive entry lists these answers:
- Spangram: COLORRHYMES
- Theme words: FLEW, HEIGHT, HELLO, PILOT, PLAQUE, QUEEN, SPREAD
The answer list is from WordFinder’s NYT Strands hints and answers archive, a third-party archive rather than an official NYT puzzle page. It provides the words but not their grid coordinates or trace paths.
Why the title’s puzzle number is off by one
The archive identifies April 13 as puzzle #406 and places #407 on April 14, 2025. That next puzzle’s spangram is SPRINGFLOWERS, with CROCUS, DAFFODIL, HYACINTH, IRIS, LILY, and TULIP as its theme words. The date is the useful way to distinguish the two entries.

How Strands works
Strands is a themed word search on a 6-by-8 grid. Trace adjacent letters in any direction; answers do not have to follow a straight line. Theme words highlight blue, while the spangram highlights yellow and spans opposite sides of the board. Finding three non-theme words earns a clue. These mechanics and general hint cues are described in WordFinder’s Strands guide.

A practical way to approach a Strands puzzle
- Read the theme clue and consider what category or relationship could connect the answers.
- Trace adjacent letters in any direction to test possible words.
- Use confirmed theme words to narrow the theme and search for the remaining answers.
- If you get stuck, find three non-theme words to earn a clue. The guide describes helper cues that can reveal the spangram’s vowel count, length, or first letter; those specific values for this puzzle are not established here.
- Look for the spangram as the entry connecting the theme that reaches opposite sides of the grid.
